I'd suggest to craft it only if rats blocking your way (to an alchemy cart for example) where you get to refill your ingredients. And where there's absolut no other way to corss/preoceeed/etc..
Since you can just load a checkpoint it'd be idiotic to waste luminosa on rats as a safety feature.
Keep the materials for the upgrades!
Throughout the level there's more than enough crafting material lying around. Especially where the rat-tornados spawn.
Either you have a bug concerning material spawns/collects or...well...aren't good at a game that literally holds your hand and throws everything you need at you so that you can proceed with the storyline. Everything's explained ---> so if you use luminosa for the tornados where there was literal text ingame telling you to use ignifier I'd suggest you pay more attention!
It's more of a visual novel with a couple of riddles.
