GPU running very hot in this game only
Fantastic game, I'm just having an irritating issue.

With the following environment and settings, my GPU is running about 15 degrees hotter than it does in any other game/application.

- AMD 3900x
- Nvidia 1080 Ti
- Gsync 3440x1440p @ 100hz
- Used a hex editor to achieve 3440x1440p ultra wide resolution
- In-game settings mostly at "High," with 85-100 fps average
- Using custom curve in MSI Afterburner to undervolt (1835 Mhz @ .875v)
- My GPU temp never breaks 70 degrees, ever (verified in Unigine Heaven, Far Cry New Dawn, etc.)

The problem:

- Turning off v-sync and allowing full 85-100 fps eventually leads to GPU temps north of 80 degrees
- Turning on v-sync and capping at 60 fps keeps GPU at around 68 degrees

I obviously want to run the game at the fastest frame rate, but the temperatures get so high that the game eventually crashes. Anyone else out there getting 60+ fps without any abnormal heat issues?

1080ti is a few years old, clean it

also check case fans and airflow

but 80c is still fine for cpu and gpu
worry when they reach 90+ and throttle

The game makes my 1080 run hot around 80°C but not really higher than any benchmark.
But my room temperature is higher than usual because of hot summer. Keep in mind that +10°C in your room can make your card also 10° hotter.

Thanks for the replies. I actually just cleaned the card a couple months ago and applied new thermal paste. And ambient temperatures are definitely hotter than they were a few months ago, but as I said above, the card still never goes above 70°C in anything else I play now.
After having played a few more hours of the game, it seems that some maps in the game push GPU temps much higher than others. The castle, for example, is one of the hottest areas in the game. My GPU temps are about 10° hotter there than in the area that follows it (heading to the library).
If you are not getting any significant temperature fluctuations in the game and you are playing with vsync off, would you mind sharing your settings? Maybe I need to turn something off or down.

With Vsync off, I usually get around 68-70C, whereas in the castle I max out at 74-75C.
This is with everything on ultra, except Chromatic abberation on lowest and AA on medium, and res scale on 100%

Thanks for the info, Samael. What fps are you getting?
t3opc: Normally I don't worry too much about heat, but games start crashing when my gpu hits 85C. And there's really no reason it should ever hit 85C because I'm severely undervolting.

Usually between 60 and 80, at worst it dips to 45, at best to 103.

Incidentally, one game that also behaved similarly like Plague is for you was Hellblade - only it kept heating up my gpu until it crashed the system (also the only game that did that, while others worked fine). A week later - related or not - my card dropped dead XD

Not to say that will happen to you though ;)

Still dont know what caused it, though on that card I had to use ancient drivers, but I'm guessing yours are probably up to date.

1440p is about 2x the pixel count of 1080p, and about +50% more gpu load in games

1080 Ti here. Playing on Ultra 2560x1440p, G-sync 144Hz monitor, v-sync on.

Just finished the first chapter. FPS around 70-80 during the forest scene at the start of the game. Around 100-120 FPS in the castle and max GPU temps are at 65C.

Will see how it goes as I progress through the story.
