I managed to do that once before he lit his armor, it just gets difficult afterwards
Other than that, it's pretty easy to break line of sight and hunker down with enough time to douse him and a torch. Second time around it only took about a minute or so to kill him.
Now it's the Vitalis fight
Why can't I extinguish Nicholas' fire after being spotted?? He suddenly becomes immune to the potion, just because he sees you??
And if you do manage to extinguish him, you have just a few seconds to get the rats to him before he lights himself again. I can barely bring up the menu thing to switch to Hugo's power in that time.
This is ruining the story for me.
EDIT: I finally beat him by running around putting out every light and he just happened to be next to the rats when I was able to extinguish him.
The game goes downhill from that point, so if you did rage quit you did yourself a favor.
Don't even get me about the Vitalis fight
Previously, He is slammed with piled bricks so sight is quite narrow.
When he's looking for you then get his back.
