Load older checkpoint
I am in Chapter 4 in the house of Laurentius.
There is a workbench but I did not use it (wanted to search in the 1st floor for materials).
In Laurentius room the game automatically saved and the story continues.
Now the Laurentius house if full of rats, I can go downstairs (thanks to the ham) but I can no longer get to the workbench (there are rats but there is no light).
So is there a way to load the previous checkpoint?

The reason why I want to do this is: for some materials I have the maximum and if I don't upgrade anything, I can not pick up additional items.
So I want to upgrade before I leave the level.

The only way I see it restarting the level from the beginning, but here I would loose much time.
So I asked if there is a way to restore the previous checkpoint (the prcheckpoint that is before the current checkpoint)

I'd say no, if you look at the save folder your save is a single file so it's overwritten every time it reaches a new checkpoint.

I started the level again.

@Developers
Maybe such situation could be avoided when you place workbenches only on places where rats can not go. In my situation it would be enough if there is a lamp nearby so I can access the workbench without getting attacked. Or you place the workbench somewhere else.

Yeah I'd appreciate this also. I think in one of the later chapters I missed an Alchemists Cart in the City because it wasn't clear which wall advanced the story and of course I chose wrong and it meant I had to restart the level entirely.

I really, really hate these checkpoints. Just pressed "E" at the wrong moment and so there's no way to return to tools and workbench: https://i.imgur.com/zF2gs0I.jpg
Has happened way too often.
oh you poor lad, you are only JUST getting started in the "Checkpoint Hell" wait until you get to the point where restarting the whole chapter, redoing over an hour of work gets to be normal...

Here is a hint, do NOT open doors or duck under ANYTHING or get close to a NPC shouting at you to come unless you are willing to redo the checkpoint or leave stuff behind.

Another super irritating thing is when the NPCs are screaming at you to hurry and come but you are looking for loot. If you are truely looking for loot (like me) turn the sound off until you are ready to proceed (when you are in the "Lost Castle" do NOT go and look at what he is trying to show you until you have EVERYTHING, and then, do not go through the door until you go right and grab a few items)

That's because the developers are doing the game first for the console and then doing a bad PC portation without manual saves. The only ones who always did that well were Core Design, all of their Tomb Raider games even had checkpoints for the PS console, and on PC they have manual saves, always. Only after the TR license was taken by Square Enix, the Tomb Raider games lost the so useful manual saves feature.
