It's Linear...AND I LOVE IT
Seriously. I dunno about you, but I've gotten a little overwhelmed lately with the over abundance of open world games.

THEY USED TO BE SO COOL to be able to do what you want in a huge sandbox. All those side missions you can do instead of advancing the story...

But then there was a point where sandbox games became meaningless. I felt this way playing GTA V and Assassin's Creed. There are too many filler quests and very thin MAIN quests. Like the main quests for both games were riveting, but far too short compared to the fluff surrounding them.

Maybe I've had some fun with the Arkham series and their open world goodness...there seemed to have been a good balance between main and interesting enough sidequests, but yeah.

I am really enjoying A Plague Tale because of how FOCUSED this damn game is. I don't care how short it is and how easy it is. To me this is a breath of fresh air in a time in my life where I just want to enjoy a short and concise experience rather than be tempted to milk every last inch and corner of a game, putting my procrastinator cap on and putting off seeing a story to the end.

Ya'll probably think I'm weird, but I actually welcome this baby sitter simulator with wide open arms.

I'm glad to hear it's Linear and pretty much story driven!

does it feel like a long game to you?
Nope. I feel like I'll finish it in a week even with what little gaming time I have these days.

And that's fine by me, I need something more quick and consumable to play.

Not 500+ hour open world campaigns where I gotta collect 2000 pinecones to unlock the true ending XD

Honestly linear story driven games were always the best, because the story is pretty much all that counts.

I so miss those old Call of Duty and Medal of Honor solo linear games.. as soon as they went online multiplayers i stopped buying them.

Gives me a Hellblade vibe and I'm loving that.

Dunno man. The Mission varity was...bad. "go here destroy this 88 flack gun" "oh ♥♥♥♥ look 2 88 flack guns, GO DESTROY THEM SOLIDER " "good Job on the last Mission, we just crossed into Germany but those pesky 88s are in the way, you know what to do" ect..ect…

regardless, OP is Right. I got fed u with "open world" games a while ago. Yeah i played GTA:O for 1337 ( haha ) Hours and had fun but it is not a memorable experience storywise….

It buggles my mind when people play the "well, it's not like every game needs to be open world or something" card when people quenstion the quality of glorified interactive movies.

Most games up to the early 2000s were linear (F.E.A.R., COD, Prey 1, Halo, Half life, Primal, GOW...), but levels were complex enough and made you feel like you were doing something more than just holding W for 10 hours. Exploration was part of the problem solving aspect in some cases.

Now, clearly this isn't that kind of game and I'm ok with that,
but again "this game is linear and proud of it \(> <)/ " is a really stupid argument.

The point of games like this one has nothing to do with level design.

I really like "glorified interactive movies" tbh… In fact some of them have been a really good experience ( LiS as a example and ist Prequel are just excelent )

Exactly and i agree with you about the kill this and this and this, but it was still more entertaining than PUBG and skyrim imo..

i Need a break from the usual tactics shooters i Play. These games provide exactly that.
Truly is a breath of fresh air from all the games I've been playing. All of which I love the same, but this is nice, simple and different.

i can't agree more, assassin creed odysey being an exception, i lost interest on all open environement game since few years now, and seing a linear game of this quality is a big cup of fresh air.

Every place look different, i saw a relatively small quantity of duplicated elements, the light ambiances are cool from start to end, no place feel empty nor useless.

It's short, both in duration and "relative" walking space, but damn, it's beautifull and look nice from start to end.

Not even speaking about the story, soldiers and the kids crew that are really nicely done.
Hugo is cute, and Amicia is beautiful, and more importantly, Beatrice is a milf!

Lol, yeah i guess he's probably younger than 30, as his daughter is already 15 o_o

My favorite character is still Lucas, so sweet little dude and really smart. Plus the scared / somehow nerdy trait he have make him somehow funny / attention needed, maybe more than Hugo that his half his age haha
Can't relate. Haven't gotten far yet lol
