Rainbow Pond Mushroom Bug - Ideas for Workarounds
So if you are like me, you probably have one chest left to find in the world. It was the Rainbow Pond Chest. But, also like me, you didn't realize this until later in the game - after you built stuff over the pond's mushroom spawn points. It seemed harmless at the time (you were unaware of the Mushroom's use or even noticed they existed), but as it turns out there was a bug that prevents the mushrooms from spawning ever again if you do that.

Well, shoot.

Hopfrog is working on a solution. However, I'm getting a feeling that while this bug will be fixed, our lost mushrooms won't return (and for some, our Ghost NPC). Maybe Hopfrog will manage to return them and save our save files, but just in case he can't this is what this thread is about.

To prevent some potential heartache due to unforeseen bugs in the future, it would be nice to have some safety rails.

My idea, concerning potentially broken triggers/NPCs/items on puzzle islands like the Rainbow Pond, would be the option to "Factory Reset" that land. There's a few ways this could be implemented:

  1. Secret Land Options for a save file, toggle each land on and off.
-- Could potentially be used to cheat, since you can unlock lands this way, but it would allow us to 'unbuy' the land so it would return to its original state the next time it is bought.
  2. Spend coins to Reset Land through the Buy Land function in game.
-- Another idea would be to spend coins based on the land's original price to reset that piece of land. Maybe tie this into an Economy skill.

In either case, treasure chests from previously solved puzzles would be tracked on the save file and won't appear if you re-complete a puzzle. However, with this functionality players could:

  • Bring back puzzle objects they accidentally destroyed with the obliterator.
  • Open up water tiles they previously filled with landfill before they get their hands on an obliterator.
  • Or maybe you just want to remove all your structures on a land and are lazy enough to pay for a land reset instead.
  • Realize your horrible ways and want to make amends with the Giant Beets.
  • But most importantly, if a puzzle bugs out, resetting it can be an option for us to try to overcome it.

What do you guys think?

Second option looks good, just need to make sure that it can't be exploited.

I can't think of any ways this kind of feature could be exploited, so long as the major rewards like Treasure Chests (spirit orbs) aren't duplicated. Maybe it might become an alternative way to harvest a lot of beets (some people want to watch the world burn), but by this point I'd probably get a lot more via farming and all the potential bonuses from buildings and skills. Same goes for the other notable one-time resources. Ultimately, the initial purchase of the land and it's puzzle/quest are the biggest rewards, with a reset having a drastically lower reward that may not justify the cost. Thus a player will likely reset for other reasons like the ones I listed above.

I also encountered the same problem. In order to achieve the full achievement, I only lacked the box of rainbow mushrooms, but I found that they are gone now... I did build a house on it.

I also like the second suggestion.
I really don't want to start all over for this achievement... hope can fix it,

Thank you. :)
