The first game was fantastic, and one of the best origin stories I have ever played in gaming, so I have nothing but good things to say about it. This was the game that brought me into the franchise, as I was never a fan previous to this reboot.
The second game had more action but it lacked the heart and struggle that made the first title so amazing, plus the ending was just awful. Worst game of the new trilogy.
The biggest problem with the third game is the ending - they rushed the last act so fast I think I got whiplash while playing it - but they brought back all the heart, improved the combat and exploration even more, and made this Lara feel utterly badass. If not for the rush to the end, this could have been one of my favorite games of all time, instead it's just a fun romp that I repeat from time to time.
Totally agree Lara became the bad ass in Shadow. I "get" the title because of the eclipse but to me Lara "Rose" up in stature in this game to become THE Tomb Raider. The Tombs were the best in the series with the DLCs of course. She became fearless and more sure of herself.
SPOILER BELOW
What ever you do Do not piss off Lara Croft by telling her you killed her best friend. That was the most bad ass sequence in gaming history as far as I am concerned!
