Reduce level of detail setting as well as shadow quality

read the sticky "performance tuning" thread, add the game to your AV whitelist, elevate the process priority to High, close all your open applications, test the DX12 setting and, in case it's a potato level CPU we're talking about, consider reducing the framerate to 50fps or 30fps.

It's a 7600k at 4.9ghz. Works fine until I get into the first city. In some areas there I get cpu bottleneck and the frame drops a little

And in rise to the tomb raider I have no cpu bottleneck, and the areas there are much bigger. Curious...

Running rise of the tomb raider at max settings, using 1080 Ti 2.1 ghz

yes Rise had big areas, but not as busy and full of stuff this games has. the comparison doesn't stand. that aside,

shadows, ambient occlusion and things related to those play a huge part.
the game does a decent job at explaining what impacts what.
also, in case you have windows 10, make sure game mode is enabled.

Microsoft hid the game mode setting a few months ago.
internet is full of obsolete instructions on this particular subject.

The game draws lots more on screen than Rise did along with more advanced lighting and other improvements.

You need a CPU upgrade for newer games to be able to take advantage of the 1080 ti especially if you are playing at 144hz.

4cores is a budget CPU paired with a top of the line GPU. You can try turning LoD and level of detail down to render less object on screen and see if it helps.

If I buy a 7700k that has 4 cores and 8 threads do you think it will help? I mean the extra 4 threads compared with my 7600k will help? Because I don't have the money to upgrade to a 6 core Intel cpu right now

Ya, the 7700k with a good OC will be better than the i5 with the 1080 ti.

According to gamegpu you will go from an average of 69fps to 105fps at 1080p.

No need of insult. Just ignore if you don't want to answer my "stupid"question. Is that hard for you to be kind?! :D

I haven't seen it enabled by default in any game. Usually have to enable it in game bar per application. But it if was enabled by default for you, great!
