The save system in "Deadly Obsession" difficulty could be better.
Let me preface this by saying that aside from what I'm about to say about it, I'm very much enjoying the hardest difficulty which in my opinion is the best way to experience the game.

That said, the save system in "deadly obsession" could be better. Right now there's no checkpoint outside of using the campfire. While I can appreciate such setting adding to the tension of platforming and enemy encounters, I had also been frustrated several times when I carefully and successfully navigated through long streches of mandatory story missions only to die of stupid mistakes or the quirks in the platforming mechanics and be taken back all the way to the beginning of the mission. It makes the story lose its momentum while not adding anything to the game, since I'd already beaten the challenge.

To be clear, I don't want checkpoints like in lower difficulties. I quiet enjoy the tension of not knowing when I can save, but I also want to feel rewarded after completing a difficult task. So maybe there can be certain checkpoints during the story missions. It doesn't make "deadly obsession" less deadly, it just makes it less boring.

It's literally the same difficulty as one with the jungle. The checkpoints are what make it the higher difficulty.
No, there are more differences than just checkpoints.
Nice comparison of different difficulties here: https://tombraider.square-enix-games.com/en-us/news/shadow-of-the-tomb-raider-difficulty-and-accessibility
Totally agree. I started playing on the hardest difficulty and I will have to stop due to the lack of checkpoints in the first chapter. I like a challenge, but when I have to do a section for the 5th time because I got killed 10 minutes after that part It's frustrating, not hard.

Well not really, the survivor vision still exists in one with the jungle. It doesn't exist at all in deadly obsession.
besides, if you finished the game you can chose to use your old save which means you start a new game with all the stuff that you already unlokced befor. saves you to skill everything, the grinding to get stuff like alrger backs etc or side quests. You can simply just complete the main story line making it much easier in the 2nd Playthrough.

My biggest issue is currently the camera will suddenly move without you telling it to during some platforming sections which has lead to me dying more then anything else, I can't imagine having to go back to the latest camp fire because of this repeatedly. :/
I gave up on Deadly Obsession the very moment I died at the bat quick time event :steammocking:, a few steps away from the dagger cutscene. as much as I consider gaming a really nice hobby to have, there's a limit to how much time I'm willing to waste on stuff because of some QTE bull, the broken climbing scripts or the stupid camera.
I'm not paid to be "zero deaths!!" level of good at videogames. sorry not sorry.

Yeah I agree with the comments that it just sucks to die from the camera spazzing out or Lara deciding to jump at a weird angle or get stuck on a crumbling wall where no direction seems to work (usually due to a single awkward polygon on the surface, you wouldn't have guessed it would restrict or deflect Lara by like 30 degrees)

Apart from the intoduction "demo level" with no save points, the normal game seems to have the save camps in right places, then again just arrived to second jungle zone, and with no slipping skill controller not registering button press deaths are gone.

I went straight into deadly obsession. And appreciate what it has to offer challenge wise. it makes you more cautious and aware of your surroundings, and that scared to jump feeling is legit.

Have to agree. Got stuck in an area for 5 minutes trying to figure out where to go and realized I needed to make a leap of faith.
I'm very disappointed with the highest difficulty setting. Having to replay sections over and over again is not "difficult", only annoying and tedious. I was hoping for something along the lines of "dead after taking a single hit" or something like that. With the current save point system I'm not having much fun after all.
There are some really lovely sections with not a singe checkpoint or campfire with 15 minutes of cutscreens, slow walking crap and large riddles in between and where you need ~30 Minutes to complete, it's sooo cool to repeat everything only because of some scripted death in the last 5 minutes where you die only because well you didn't know, but hey on the second try you at least know that one then until the next that you first need to know.

They at least could grant a checkpoint after completing large areas or something, on Xbox One X i once completed an 45 minutes section and was in safety (at least i thought so) and because i already played over 8 hours i thought ok well i'm tired now so i shutdown the console now and go to bed ... after i awaken and wanted to continue from where i was, i noticed that they didn't even save there on shut down and i had to repeat the whole 45 minutes crap again, hilarious!

So on consoles you better not fall asleep or get distracted to long before reaching a campfire to save else it could auto-shutdown or something... :NeedCoffeine: :Silly:

Ohh and the best is, you not only loose all progress, no you also loose all stats ... yeah correct stats are only saved at camp fire too, so kills and everything are only counted if you can save, there are no global stats, it's all save dependant!

I really hope a new patch would add some checkpoints to the game on the highest difficulty. It would make deadly obsesion so much more enjoyable.
If you can't handle, turn your difficulty down, don't ask for it to be turnwd down for everyone via a patch.

If you'd read what I wrote in the OP, you'd known that it's not about making it less difficult, it's about making it less tedious and boring. Also, you can't go back from "deadly obsession", so obviously you've never tried it, therefore you don't know what you are talking about.
