How do I progress? The end is always the same the screen is filled with hostiles and death. So, fun game? I would like to know what needs to be done to get to the next part?

Picked the game up on itch.io, and it's been fun so far, but there are a few things that are a bit unclear: 1. What's the win condition here? Am I supposed to survive until the timer runs down, or destroy the bosses? 2. What triggers the story to continue? I was getting new information every few respawns, but now it's stuck on a line like "I was never the fastest learner". Is that the last thing she says in the game? 3. Just something kinda minor that bugs me. The whole game feels super stylish and somber and melancholic and basically very well polished. The music, the gameplay, the in-game art, they all are great. Except for the title screen. For me it looks really amateurish and clashes with the polish of the rest of the game.
