Valimar fight against S's Kestrel: Did anyone enjoy it?
I'm replaying this game vanilla (not NG+/carry overs) again for the first time in a LONG while, and I have no memory of how incomprehensibly bizarre this fight is. I've spent roughly 15-20 minutes drawing this fight out as long as possible to see if she's possible to hit with normal attacks.

She's not. She can't be hit with normal attacks apparently. How did I not notice this in my first play through lol. I've played through the game several times on NG+ carry over saves bc I love the world and story so much, and I have no recollection of this fight on my first play through. I must have had too much wine that evening, because this is simply tedious and the worst designed mech battle in the game by far. They should have given a "do nothing" option, like "Move" in normal combat, so Alisa's CP recovery can tick, letting us better accumulate CP without getting countered in the process. Defend works in a sense, but it costs CP, making it counter-intuitive.

I assume this is by design? If so, why do you think that is?

Does anyone actually discuss actual ToSCII stuff on this forum anymore now that III has been announced under NIS?

To be clear, this is my favorite JRPG series (trails in the sky was equally good imo, if not better) I've played so far. I keep finding others to try and scratch the itch but it's just not the same, so this isn't a hate thread.

I just find this particular fight so jarring and odd having played it again for the first time since.. well my first time xD

Edit: I was wrong. After drawing the fight out for roughly 16 minutes , I DID managed to hit her with a standard attack. Still, unlike every other Divine Knight battle in the game, I did NOT enjoy this one.

Title is a spoiler. I would appreciate if you could change it.

Actually this was one of better fights imo. It’s also about planning so „do nothing” option would make it way too easy if you ask me (it’s already easy enough imo).

Why would he save her tho? That was a mistery to me. But I guess that’s how out MC is.

All the mech fights with the exception of the optional to win one against Instructor I have Richard's hairdoo, are super easy even on nightmare mode. Even that one is not all that hard but does require a bit of a strategy since it is optional to win for MAX AP.

That being said are they good? Not really. Are they bad? Not really. They are meh. I just enjoy the music in all honesty.

I am curious though, unless you are hitting her bad spots she should get hit by normal attacks. And while yes she is more of a nimble type, so the use of arts is encouraged, HOW IN THE NAME OF AIDIOS did you manage to not hit her for 16 mins. Sir are you the answer to the mystery of bad RNG? I mean I have heard people complain about the fishing mini game in 3rd (which I don't get how people can have problem with that) but being unable to hit her for 16 mins straight might be a saying that you should stay away, far away from casinos. I mean you might just destroy the world economy if you did that.

I don't recall any problem hitting her with normal attacks. The only advice I was given was to set Valimar's Power Orbs as all Defense.

I never used defence orbs due to the usual trails mentality of defence not meaning much on higher difficulties. Is it good for Valimar? I mean I always focus on time and power/mind so not sure.

I think the entire purpose of this fight is to make sure you understand the mechanics of Morning Moon.

I only used that orb setup for this fight because I was advised to. That is presumably because Kestrel is very fast and gets a lot more turns. I went back to a HP/Speed/something setup after.

Best setup for every Valimar fight is Power (Attack) 3 2 1. You want Valimar to be as slow as possible and for the enemy to have as many turns as possible. Use Morning Moon, let them have multiple rounds of attacks. You will evade 100% of the time and counter with 100% chance to hit. If you can get three of those for every one turn you get, you can just boost your CP and use Morning Moon every turn. Super efficient.

I rather use my other crafts honestly.

its not "best" setup, its just one of the options and not even great honestly. You can utilize morning moon aswell by having high speed and double turns, just use it second turn since youll be on high recover anyway.

I know this is a super old post but it comes up #3 on google result so:

Lustrous Impact (30cp Craft) is a guaranteed hit and a 1-in-3 chance to crit. It will also impede her charge attacks and keep you from taking the counterattack damage that missing on a regular melee would net you. It's better to use that as your main attack rather than trying to connect with regular melees. Using your ally's attack arts will also do unavoidable damage to her. That's how I get through that fight quickly.
