How am I supposed to catch Giant Swordtail? (Angler Management quest)
I don't see how I could possibly manage to complete this quest.

Often when the button input is changed, there's a longer delay than usual for the new input to appear, causing the fishing marker (the one you move by mashing the buttons) to go back a lot more than it's supposed to because my button presses aren't registered until the new button input actually appears. The bar keeps shrinking constantly though, meaning I eventually end up failing no matter what I do.
To say that I'm kinda annoyed by this would be a severe understatement.

How exactly am I supposed to complete the quest when the game throws this bullsh*t at me?

Git gud.

Joke aside, if you're not used to fishing in the game and just tried it for this quest it might give you a hard time. But with a little training you should be able to get it without too much issues.

So you're saying there is some way to actually make the game register commands while the input switch is going on? Haven't managed to find one on my own.

No. When the input switch you'll automatically lose progression without being able to do anything, except being ready to press the right button when it'll become available.. The point is to git gud at button mashing so you'll make up for lost progression in the time span when your inputs are avaialble to make the bar progress in the good direction

Well, that isn't the problem. I've never had an issue with button mashing in any game ever before. The problem here is that the switch usually takes maybe 0,5 seconds, making me lose a little progress, but every 5-or-so switches, the delay is like 2 seconds instead, losing me most or all of the progress I've made.

I got it with dumb luck but damn I though my fingers will fall off, keep trying

Yeah, sadly for you it's WAD. The 2 seconds delay is the same for everyone, it's not a bug or whatever.

Then this is officially the worst minigame I've ever played, as well as a prime example of bad game design. I love the game overall, but this is horrible.

I got a nostalgia feel back to 90s and the turbo controllers with this minigame

Okay, I've had it. I'm skipping this quest. Haven't been this mad at a game in at least 10 years, and I've played a lot.
The quest is simply impossible to beat like this, at least for me. I don't know if it's due to some sort of technical issue or because I somehow suck at button mashing, despite never having any issues in other games. Whichever the case, I can barely get past the halfway point here, and as soon as that long delay turns up, I'm screwed.

If you are playing with your keyboard, I can see this being a problem. On a controller, it's trivial.

Catching it is much easier then some of the other highest ranked fishes tbh. If your having a hard time tho OP, set fps to cap at 30.

Also needless to say be sure to use the best fishing rod.

It's a bit late to respond, but I had this exact same problem. It's possible it's not your fault. I restarted my game and set all of the shadows really low so the game would run perfectly (before it was decent). That made the minigame about 5 times easier. Before it was actually impossible because of the delays.

You have my 100% absolute total agreement with statement. Made much the same complaint.

Had no problems with the fishing minigame using mouse and keyboard.

Just above, parati570 said he had that problem but resolved it by setting the graphics settings of the shadows to low. Have you tried that?

Had zero problems myself, mainly used PS4 controller though. I usually guessed which button would be next and would hit it during the transition periods and I didn't lose progress that way. Never missed catching any fish. Was extremely easy.
