- Better monster variety (reborn feels like it's just a bunch of copy-pasted stick figures of different sizes and with different articles glittered on them)
- Better feeling of progression due to lack of level scaling
- Better clutter of assets scattered through the map (reborn feels so "flat" and barren)
- Better separation of zones that melted into each other (reborn seems to use corridors to merge the zones together)
- No micro-transactions or forced DLC for questing
- etc, etc
Reborn did seem to get a lot right (the new classes, more refined combat of some classes, auction house, etc), but I feel they went in the wrong direction by completely overhauling the map, removing tons of models/assets, and in general removing clutter from the world.
It's like they improved the mechanics and did a hardcore removal of the world's aesthetics. I may have to change my review... they didn't seem to ultimately upgrade the game, but rather they side-graded it :(
To think they removed the early access banner as well; what a shame. At this point they should just introduce single player and mod support so that those mods can be merged into the online game with a player voting system. Then they could just let the players help build the ultimate experience. Haha, what I am I saying, they will never do that.
I will give it another chance during the thanksgiving break and sink 10 hours into it, but first impressions were saddening.
It may not be entirely what I wanted, but I think we have to give credit where credit is due. Now if only microtransaction were removed, I would be able to give it at least a 8/10, however that is a different discussion, I think...
Oh, don't get me wrong, I agree with you in that the content they removed should have been kept. However, keep in mind that the personality of the original build of the game came from the players and willful interaction and not necessarily the developers. I found a few people the last time I was playing that were trying to practice spells and learn the game; we ended up sitting in a circle talking about things like people used to do back in the day. One of the people in the group even escorted me to a dungeon that was about a 15 minute walk away.
I would really like to see them re-introduce the old world and make the main city where everyone congregates smaller, because that was definitely something they changed which was a step in the wrong direction.
Maybe you and your friends just have bad taste....?
I never did play pre-born tho....so who knows.....?
Reborn is the greatest thing I have ever played tho, barring none.
You don't like the game as it is and I love it.
The idea that you and a handful of buddies think that the game is ruined to the point that you don't want to play it should make others not want to play it is silly.
I offered a fair counterpoint to your comment about death and ruin....for others benefit, not yours as your mind is made up.
Also the game isn't dying it's absolutely packed 24.7
I wish to pitch this idea to the Devs
Just have a door that opens on one end or something, that goes out into the old world outside of town, or, atleast bring back the old enemy types and make the map more interesting, it doesnt even have the grass like before, it just feels... dead
Next week there is a big graphical update / upgrade coming to the town of Highsteppe. The devs are definitely not "finished" with that aspect of the game....
As far as your suggestion about the door........I love it....
In fact I have made it before....sorta.... I suggested that a VR headset should be added to the tavern and allow you to play around in the old version of the world as if you were entering into VR.....
I don't think it is going to happen tho. The devs and senior players feel that it would split the playerbase and take away from the existing version of the game..... and also.... even tho the new oculus standalones are slightly more powerful than the last batch of oculus standalones.... they are still just last gen cellphones.... and the original issues persist....
I never played OG Orbus, so I can't compare the look of it to the Reborn Orbus.... but... I would mention that even tho the graphics are best described as "functional" they do have a nice style to them and I personally find the world quite engaging.....
I'd still love to have a look at the old world tho.
"The devs took the Facebook money and deleted OrbusVR entirely and relaunched it as Orbus Reborn, specifically for the Facebook Oculus Quest 1 launch."
Is this true?
