Apartment upgrades

I have bought a few but nothing in my apartment actually changes.
Is there any point to these or should I stop wasting money?

the upgrades are "decoration" (if you dont see changes is because you havent seen what you bought)
if you buy all the upgrades you get an achievement
there's not really a lot of options to "waste" your money other than upgrade your apartment, your car and keep some cash for fuel

When I bought the lamp I was expecting the place to light up a bit etc.

Buy the TV and the Video game and you can then play the video game.
