Rania is so unlikeable.
I'm not the only one thinking this, right?

Seriously? You've just defeated your own point, by assuming only men could dislike Rania, leaving no room for women having all kinds of opinions about her.

... says a woman who has at this point heard her say a few things already that make her like that character less.

agree. I think she sounds ungrateful sometimes, to Ben , and to the dog. And she sticks so firmly to what's right. She always tries to do the right thing, but I just don't like her sometimes. She cool most of the time though

when she started out her attitude was tolerable but after awhile i noticed everyone started to get to her as if the load of the job and being exposed to so many different kinds of personalities good and bad is taking a tole on her as if she needs a vacation away from it all. The strain of corp sec is showing its ugliness.

"Stop hustling and you sank without a trace, but move a little too swiftly and you'd break the fragile surface tension of the black market. Either way, you were gone"

I actually liked Rania at the beginning, she's an outsider forced into the city, everything taken from her, she's angry and bitter, she doesn't try to be likeable and rightfully has an attitude. The issue I have is, a city like Nivalis in the genre that I am familiar with, with that sort of attitude and casual tendency to do against what she's been told, she'd be dead in no time, as Control kind of hinted. I'd have no issue with her personality or her actions if we see the city acknowledges and reacts to her actions accordingly, and Rania in turn, is punished and grows from her experience, either she falls in line like the rest of the city, or she uses her wit and resourcefulness to stay true to herself while taking down obstacles in her path, and perhaps her tenacity is what makes CORA notice her and give her such a responsibility in the end. However, we see neither, the city just forms around her in a way that she is always in the right and becomes the chosen one.

Another issue I have with her is, the game's politics is really on the nose, this is coming from a liberal who has voted as one all their life. So if it's on the nose for me, someone who basically agrees with her, I'd imagine it's really annoying for people who happen to have different political views as me. Case in point, she complains about: gender roles Mr/Mrs Anderson cultural appropriation music producer you give the feather to caricature of racists baz, Quiny two genders only Mr/Mrs Anderson toxic masculinity the not-Joe-Rogan bro-caster and overall disdain for the rich (with the exception of perhaps Dolly), and these issues weren't really tackled in any depth either, they're merely one liners almost as if there was a woke checklist. I am of the opinion that if you want to tackle social issues in any medium, either dive in and have a nuanced take or don't do it at all.

Maybe her character develops further in the DLC, Nivalis was such an awesome city with a lot of potential for more world building, I look forward to more, and I really hope they get rid of Pashta holy s***.

I love Rania. I was kind of disappointed for a minute when CoG started as someone else. As for Camus and Pashta, I like them too. Not quite as much as Rania but they are important elements in Rania's life, so I like them for the story, companionship and conversations they provide. Pastha's voice is weird for sure but some people have weird voices. That's ok.

It's amazing how many petty arguments have sprung up around this, good lord guys. Grow some perspective.

I love Rania, honestly. There were a couple of instances where I thought she was being a bit blunt or insensitive unnecessarily (like confronting escalator guy's brother about their terrible mother) until the conversation clarified where she was coming from. I think the the only real place where I disagreed with her was her reaction to accidentally being dosed by the Purple Violet shipment and to psychedelics in general, but I can at least understand her point of view if it's not something she'd done before then and especially if she didn't know what was happening. Plus, the guy responsible turned out to be kind of rubbish despite his platitudes anyway.

I really appreciate the game touching on a lot of social issues here and there. Honestly, I wish they dove deeper on a number of them, but that'd, like, quintuple the game's length and distract a lot from the core story rather than being little tidbits you stumble across if you take the time to hang out and wander around.

Can't say I understand all the Pashta hate. She's abrasive and kind of blunt, sure, but if your awful cop dad tried to erase your memories and you had to write down your recollection of your mother so he couldn't take that from you, and had some stranger posing as your dad on top of that, AND the guy who put in most of the work trying to help you out of the situation literally exploded in front of you, yeah, you wouldn't be the friendliest or most conversational, either.

And as for Camus? I think the mostly monotone delivery accentuates his goofiness as he stumbles his way through new and exciting concepts. I get the impression that even the future version of an AIBO wouldn't necessarily be programmed to philosophize, so he just reads as someone opening up their worldview, at least to me. And his recalcitrance re: some of the HOVA-related stuff, while a bit of a buzzkill, makes sense given he originally woke up as a car, got stolen as a car, and probably bumped into a lot of other cars and scenery just in his first night in town. I get it.

tl;dr, I can see and even agree that some aspects of the characters might come across at unlikable, but they fit the characters, so I'm here for it.

I like also Rania.

yeah she's terrible...and absolutely not convincing as a delivery driver...she sounds more like a hipster
velcroboy333 Jun 26, 2021 @ 9:58am
Because hipsters can't be delivery drivers? Weird, I guess I just learned a new thing today. :captainclown:

She sounds like she doesn't even know what she's doing there...i just don't see her as a delivery person at all...

Well yeah, she's new to the city and it's her first day on the job, which clearly has some high turnover rate/risks. So, it makes sense they'd hire her (or really anyone willing to take on the risk.) And that she'd be a bit green...since it's her first day.

She knows how to drive the HOVA and she's got an AI to get her where she needs to go. What else is required of a delivery driver. It's not like they have to pass a personality test.

I'm just not seeing the problem here.

I kept thinking that Camus should be pronounced as in French. The pronunciation of the name jars on me. Is that weird?

I disliked Pashta's voice distortion, it made her sound very weird
Thank goodness i'm not the only one. It was nails against a chalk board when her dialog came up.
