So. I learned about this game through Jaiden's video. As I watched the parts with her choices, I thought it seemed fun. But I was wrong. It's not only fun, but also endearing to have discussions with the different characters. They all have unique personalities and are interesting to interact with. I can only wish to play more games like this, as this one definitely was amazing !

How does one give impressions of something like this...?

WHat you do is speed date three ghosts over two rounds, at the end you pick one and continue a bit with that ghost, I picked Steph and we ended up going to the park and I got to know a bit more about her.

You also have a "graveyard" within which you gather the ghosts you've dated and can read up a bit more about who they are or, at least in the case of Steph realized that they are.

The trailer and the screen shots really show exactly what the game is all about, branching dialogue trees so to unlock/read all text you'll have to re-date. (I saw the option after finishing the date but I didn't click it so I'm not sure if you only do the ghost you picked again to see more of that specific dialogue...)

Some deeper feelings, some nice stories (of the lives of the ghosts) and a couple of laughs...

This is certainly not for everyone but if you like some morbid humour coupled with some stories about someone's life coupled with odd characters it may be something you'd want to check out.

At first i was expecting something silly or cute, but this game adresses really interesting topics. One of the Ghosts is still processing his traumatic death, another one is, even after his death still dealing with anxiety issues.
But i really enjoyed it, its a dating sim. but an intersting one!

I played Speed Dating for Ghosts on Ubuntu 18.04 through Steam Play. The game worked perfectly, even though it doesn't have native Linux support.

I'm not a big fan of visual novels. They have to be exceptionally weird, quirky or unique to pique my interest. Speed Dating for Ghosts ticks all those boxes with its inventive characters, outstanding writing and funny dialogue exchanges.

What's more, Speed Dating for Ghosts is exactly what it says on the lid: you play as a ghost going through an agency looking for a possible partner. It's up to you to decide which ghosts to go out with and which to dump.

Warning: it's going to be awful hard to choose because they're all very charismatic and, even if they're not your type, they'll still make you wonder “what the hell?”

(Although it's probably best not to talk about hell around ghosts... they don't fancy talking about how they died, OK?!)

Highly recommended to those who are into graphic novels and dating sims. If you're not into those two categories, I still recommend Speed Dating for Ghosts if you're into humor, well-written exchanges and multiple choices.

I hope Speed Dating for Ghosts... takes your breath away.

All I have to say is that I want to spend more time with them... Its a shame this game is not a full on dating sim... for real, I would spend an unhealthy amout of money to be with those charachters just a little longer. knowing how short the game is, I find myself scared to keep going. I don't want to finish the game. I don't want to forget them. I really don't want to move on, I'm not ready.. I want so much more, it hurts to know it's almost over. If you get easily attached, get ready. because time flies by... 9/10 deep and mostly safe(sure touches subject that surround death, but does it in a very comfortable and detached way).

Speed Dating for Ghosts is a short dating sim developed by Copychaser Games. Essentially you choose from one of three available rooms, each room has three different ghosts for you to chat to and since it’s speed dating. You have a brief conversation with all three ghosts, then there’s a break and you speak to them all again. At the end of the last conversation you can choose which ghost to ask out on a date and depending on how your conversation went you’ll get an extra date scene with them.

• The art here is nice. The backgrounds are just colour blocks, but the ghost designs make up for it. They’re all nicely designed, and I think the minimalist style works well for the game.
  
  
• The writing is superb. Even in the initial conversation with each ghost you really get a sense of all their personalities.
  
  
• The ghosts are well varied, all nine of them have very different personalities. I think the different ghosts appeal to different people too, which is nice. I ended up really relating to one particular ghost, and actually really disliking a couple of other ghosts, while other people have had the exact opposite opinion to me. It’s neat that it offers something for everyone.
  
  
• As long as you impress a particular ghost, they’ll agree to a date with you at the end of your session. The date varies for each ghost and is very dependent on the personality of the ghost. Once you complete a date, that ghost appears in the game’s graveyard and you can replay the date at any time.
  
  
• The game initially launched with a higher price, I believe it was either $11.99 or $14.99, but it was later dropped to the current price of $6.99. I think $6.99 is a much more reasonable price for the game, though I picked it up on sale for just shy of $3. I think it’s worth picking up full price if you think you’ll play through to get all the ending, but it’s definitely worth a try on sale if you like short narrative games.

• No save and quit functionality. Yes, it is a short game, but I was a bit disappointed that I had to start over if I wanted to close the game for a while.
  
  
• I would have liked an option the three ghosts I’d be chatting to. I don’t particularly want to sit through conversations with the characters I don’t like again to go on dates with the characters I like/am indifferent to.

Speed Dating for Ghosts is a quirky little visual novel with superb writing and well varied, believable characters. It’s a short but sweet experience. I’d recommend it to visual novel/dating sim fans or anyone who fancies trying something a bit different.

OH MY GOD I KILLED ANDY BY ACCIDENT

Speed Dating for Ghosts is a visual novel in which you play as a ghost attempting to navigate the dating world in the afterlife. While it might sound a bit silly the game is actually quite thoughtful and sweet, managing to maintain a great balance between the more somber side of death while also having some humor about it.

As in real life you will discover that your first impression of the people (or ghosts) you encounter might not be true to their actual self, and it is very rewarding getting to know them and uncover their softer sides. This depth to the characters and the wonderfully written dialogue creates an experience that is very engaging and at times even emotional.

My Verdict

I got this game on a whim as it was on sale, and as someone who isn’t typically a fan of visual novels I’ll admit that I wasn’t really expecting much. I was so pleasantly surprised by just how much I loved this game, and I would recommend it to anyone with a darker sense of humor who would enjoy a short but charming look into the afterlife.

Speed Dating for Ghosts is perhaps a little bit different dating sim I'm used to, and I don't mean it in a bad way. The tone is more existential and less fun, yet hopeful; it is sad but joyful, it makes you laugh but also my eyes got misty on a few occasions. You meet various characters with different pasts and with various outlooks on death, some characters to whom I related more than I would be willing to admit out loud. This game struck me, made me feel many emotions, questioning my own purpose and dealings with life (which I'm already doing quite a lot in my spare time), providing an even deeper level into my playthrough. I like stories, and going through the stories of these beings was a time well spent... on the other hand, what wasn't a time well spent, was getting "rejected" achievement which was incredibly hard for me, because I am an ass, but not that kind of an ass, especially in video games, so this guide was a godsend. Even with that kind of a playthrough though, you uncovered further glimpses into feelings and mindsets of the ghosts you meet which helped to deepen their characters, and made me even more sympathetic to their fates.

Speed Dating for Ghosts is a lovely, small game which I enjoyed and I would recommend anyone to give it a go if you feeling like questioning life, afterlife, mortality or neither and you want a dating sim to play. I personally think that anyone can find some nuggets of truth & wisdom in here, offering small solace into your life... or maybe that's just me :)
