Other one attacks while standing.
I thought this too at first, but then i found a entry for melee weapons on the DF2 wiki, where it says this:
,,Melee weapons have two types of attacks, right and left-click. Both of these attacks deal the same damage and have the same speed, but some may prove better in certain situations than the other. (Such as over the head attack for enemies above the player and on the ground (default Mouse0 ), while the side swing attack (default Mouse1 ) may be useful for infected directly in front of the player.)''
So i tested them some more and while the animation for one of the attacks looks like it gives you more reach, its actually the same as the other attack, same for speed.
Still confused what the attacks actually are for.
Right click propels you forward and the attack comes out earlier.
Both attacks are the same dps.
Right click are your go to for most scenarios.
Left click I find useful for hitting enemies with auras (infection, burning, or tentacles).
Since left click does not propel you forward, you can reliably hit them with the tip of the weapon without touching the aura.
