Open up Big Picture Mode, click the Settings gear in the top right corner, go to Controller Settings, and enable PlayStation Controller support.
You will need to enable your right thumb stick as your mouse. There should be plenty of layouts available for you to try out through Steam.
With my Steam Controller, I'm able to play from my couch the entire time
EDIT: I can confirm there are plenty of PS4 controller layouts available. To view them, go to Library > click Dead Frontier 2 > Controller Configuration (you need to set up the controller through Big Picture Mode as described above) > Community Configurations, and the PS4 should come up first. If not, click "View Other Controller Types". You can then edit and make your own as well
