I think there was a comedy skit about this in the 80's... "I do cocaine, so I can work harder, so I can make more money, so I can buy more cocaine!" Rinse, repeat.
Love me a good storyline mission or epic quest. However, these chains are as crazy as an outhouse rat!
Common media items are easily ID'ed by their scrap value. If they sell for $6.00 or less, common. After that they are probably part of the lore and storyline. A few more of them, specific crafting recipes or mission triggers. Stupid Scavenger Pouches...
You mention the Father's Journal. Yes, it is one of the possible media items Duncan asks for. The requested media item changes daily in that mission. It will display in your mission log what it is Duncan needs that day. They used to be fairly rare. A patch boosted the drop rate a while back and now they drop like there's no tomorrow.
Very cool to see others interested in the media items found in game. Cheers!
