Well, as far as I know, it's one person working on it
Somebody hold this ten foot pole on a twenty foot extension while I open the huge can of worms on the other end...
The "End Game" for DF2... If I was forced to sum it up in as short of space as possible it may look like this. The end game in DF2 is not so much about the game itself, it's what you want to do with your avatar.
Cor Heart mentioned it. Once you have made it to level 50 with your first avatar one of two things will happen. One, you have credits and re-roll as your first build will almost always be garbage. Two, you are a F2P player and will simply make a new avatar from scratch now that you know which end is up.
The question is... "What do you want to do with your life son?" Are you into the PvP scene? Want to loot even the darkest corners of Palehaven? Maybe competing on the leader board for Boss hunting? Or a PvE build that chases down mission lines? While you can create a "mix-master" of sorts the end game for DF2 might best be described as "specialized".
You will probably not do so well looting with a PvP build. And that Boss hunter might not work out so well looking for mission drops. With that being said, you CAN make a lot of builds flexible with gear load outs. A topic for another day to be sure. In short, different gear kits for different tasks.
Before you jump in, do some research! I know, reading and looking around is boring... Suck it up! You don't want to be smacked about like a rag doll? Wanna drop a Boss from the door you walked through? Don't try to reinvent the wheel, learn from other players!
Ok, we did our research. We know what we want, and how to do it. Time to make it happen. There are a couple suggestions I will make then let y'all have at it. For easy XP there are three missions I highly suggest. Again, research them! "Missing Kiddo" "Doomsayer" "Wandering Survivors (Goretrimmer)". If you missed them the first time around, you will enjoy them and possibly score some good starting and mid-level loot. In addition, the "Goretrimmer" line is an awesome way to score fairly easy XP daily! A bonus when rebuilding or starting that second avatar.
Once you hit level 50 and have those three missions tackled, Goretrimmer will probably be in the works still, pick up these two... "Ronin's Blade" An end game pistol. And the "Kate" line. Apologies as the proper name eludes me this early in the morning. It is for some neat looting gear and from what I have seen, the BEST pack in game! Both of these, much like the Goretrimmer line, are very in depth. Both can be started by finding information in PCA, Palehaven City Archives.
End game zones... PCA is the first one you should explore. PLEASE NOTE: The huge de-buff to you and the huge buff to the Zombies upon entering. It will be listed in your skills window like any other buff or de-buff. There are two others. "Comer & Sons" and the new Hospital. All three will have their names in red. All three have the de-buff in some fashion. PCA, completely doable at level 50 with a solid build and a player who is paying attention. The other two... Well let's say you better eat your Wheaties.
TLDR: Wrapping it up here is the bottom line. The end game starts with YOU the player creating a solid build for the play style you want. Starting the three "end game" missions I mentioned earlier. Then you can work the two remaining mission lines, one for a melee the other for an assault rifle IIRC. Or you can compete on the leader boards. Loot high end zones to make cash. At this point it's all about what you want to do in-between events.
Lots of "Rabbit Holes" throughout this journey. The trick is take a peek and not get sucked into any of them too far before you decide which one is for you! Hope this has helped, stay safe out there Strugglers!
I'm a simple man, I like to explore, loot and kill. As I said, my only problem is how the game scale, I play it solo just relaxing, I really like the areas between lvl 1~30, On 35~50 the game changes a lot. The perfect example of what I don't like is what you need to fight the Tendrills (and some others bosses, but Tendrills is the perfect example), you need, literally, to become so fast that your animation break any immersion that the game had created until there.
The immersion and atmosphere is my point, early/mid game it's good, and feels like a survival horror game. But at the endgame there's so much mutations and everything is fast, the feeling of survival horror game, the immersion and atmosphere, is gone.
BUT STILL, it's a good game, but the early/mid game is far better than the end game
I didn't played DF1 that much, but my impression was that it was a Left 4 Dead but less frenetic (And as far as I know, later it get a lot more frenetic). But there's no "Survive Horror" feeling there, was just a Left 4 Dead Top Down view.
But DF2 I was impressed, I liked a lot the "Survive Horror" feeling, but it took some time to be more "enjoyable". 30+ sec of loading every door you open, inventory and items just text, was... hard to deal with
Or you can kick the boss so hard that it goes moonwalk to the edge of the room so you can get enough time to unload whatever firearm that you currently have
