Market Price Inflation
I've noticed something a bit concerning with the market.

Currently, there are players purchasing every sold item they can find, and raising the price significantly higher than other prices. Lower priced items last a split moment on the market, then get resold for twice to three times the price players will regularly sell the item for.

It's very noticeable on the rifle ammunition.

I'm worried that the state of the market may make the game tedious for newer players, and may create an artificial shortage of ammunition.

I also can't tell if it's someone who is just very persistent, or if we may already have botting in the game, as rifle ammunition priced below 90 is near-instantly sold.

It happens in every online game with a player run economy mate. It will eventually balance out with time as the market grows too large to be controlled in this manner.

The market balance itself after a while unless there's an extreme problem with too much cash being generated and not enough cash sinks to counter it.

Rifle ammo doesn't appear as often as stuff like shotgun/pistol/smg ammo either. Rifle is also a popular weapon so theres high demand.

I wish I could agree with that, but when my wife and I play, almost all the ammo we get is rifle ammo. We'd sell it, but she loves using the rifle, so it does get used.

I'm currently running low on my shotgun shells. :(

Probably rng then, I get more pistol/smg ammo more than anything. Sometimes rifle ammo and all the time shotgun shells

It happens when you got no ways to spend your money other than trade with other players.

Current medical ratio is 1$ / hp, not for 70hp and 100hp kit. Sometimes just check the med on market, some player will sell it with lower price, buy it and save for later. Or just like 12 gauge ammo, the first 3 days they sell 20 for 10$, so many player buy and save for later too. Now 20 ammo price 20$, and 30$ at lvl outpost

Keep in mind this game has essentially no cash sinks, and all cash faucets. (Tax per sale is the only sink.) This means money will eventually be less valuable than toilet paper.

That's not a bad idea, really. Right now I'm using drop chances for rare and elites.

That's true. However, I've seen no tax per sale yet, which may be the issue. Buying a $58 stack and selling it for $60 wouldn't be worth it with 10% tax. You'd lose out on $4.

For some reason I tend to get less ammo for things I'm using. I don't think this is actually an intended thing, and I don't think it's actually programmed in. I think I just have bad luck, and just end up with little ammo.

That's true. I think the main problem with that is being able to scrap things for cash. As amazing as scrapping is, it creates an infinite amount of money. However, there's also a problem with not having it as well, which is not being able to increase the amount of money as it gets hoarded or players leave and reduce the pool of money.

Like you said, there needs to be an alternative use for money that removes it from the pool, that way we can sink our money into it and the economy can stabilize better.

The prices if anything are mostly lower in the first 2 outposts then in the last few days.

Obviously minimum prices on equipment went up a bit due to scrapping being added but food / drink is lower / the same, meds are now generally $1 for 1hp which is half what it was for days and ammo is about the same or lower depending also.

There is already a 10% fee for selling stuff on the market.

Once you get the flow of the market, ammo typically doesn't become a problem.

im hopping that every outpust (right now there are 3 outpost in the game) market will get combined someday. Right now it's so easy to buy stuff real cheap at Dallbow and sell it at Havelbrook on 30 to 50% price difference.

The good news is that the playerbase r stable enough to sell their loot in the market. If the game playerbase r getting lower than this then im afraid that things will become much-much more expensive on the market since it's easy to control the price due to lack of stock.

Rifle ammo has stayed around a stable 3$ per bullet if you ask me. The ammo type is just pretty much forced for now if the player chooses to use a rifle. That's why the pricing is higher where most other ammo types have quickly dropped in value. Pistols and shotguns have the two ammo types split among early level guns. And 9mm/12 guage almost start dropping immediately (you start seeing them at lvl 5+). Basically other gun categories have twice the potential supply so supply is much higher than demand. As a result, these ammo types are cheaper than rifle ammo.

There isn't really a monopoly on rifle ammo. You'd quickly max your 20-30 market place slots if you were trying to corner the market on such an item. If anyone undercuts you by just a few dollars, you'd lose money (thanks to taxes) if you bought their item and tried to resell it. So that's why the 20 slots would be a hindrance for large scale market cornering. You can't afford to keep 50 stacks of the item either in case there is a massive price drop down the road (like what happened with the other ammo types, examples being .32 cal.9mm, and 20 gauge all used to be worth 50-100% more just a few days ago). It'd be like investing in incredibly violatile stocks, you'd never want too much on you at once because you never know if that market will crash.
