Its good for OA in dalbow and haverbrook. using lvl 20-30 Chainsaw on these 2 OA can easily clear the horde very fast, having Lumberjack Skills perk makes its even good. For Greywood, kinda hard but doable.

Imo, Its good for OA, for loot trip and boss hunt. Lets wait for other answer

I have about 50 hours under my belt now and I don't really like chainsaws. They attack constantly, which makes them a good alternative for melee weapons in itself but while they circumvent the problem of potentionally missing a swing they not only use ammo but also only attack in a very narrow line with not enough stunlock to keep more tanky zombies at bay.

They also suffer from the problem that every melee weapon faces, namely pukers just destroying you with "stupid damage" aka damage you couldn't see coming or shouldn't even happen because the zombie already stopped puking. Also a problem every melee weapon has is that there are zombies that have "Auras" like burning zombies or zombies with flies around them.

Fuel is also very expensive, which contradicts the one thing melee weapons had above other weapons because swinging an axe didn't cost anything.

From my experience they are really only good up to like level 15-20 zones but afterwards it's just masochistic to use melee weapons because everything pukes and you have no way to tell what does and what doesn't.
They are super nice for leveling through kills though because they make noise and attract zombies but then again, some would also call that a downside.

They need a buff or the puker zombies as well as the aura zombies need a nerf to actually make it possible to play around their issues. That's all it needs to make them fun. They are fun in low level zones and during outpost attacks though.

I think that chainsaws are not half as bad (even on higher levels). Despite the fact that I haven't invested any skills into lumberjack perk I have a 25 level Dilmar chainsaw with increased body damage, dmg reduction and attack speed. It deals roughly 25 alpha dmg per sec (without considering bonus dmg to infected, granted by other gear). This is sufficient for looting lvl 30 areas (imo). The problem of gettung puked on or not getting puked on is completely in the hands of player. As soon as you see a zed going to throw up on you, close in and interrupt.
All things considered it's a solid secondary weapon as it is even without investing any additional skills.

not for poor player cause its use fuel, but it easy to use at zeds lv 15 or lower coz zeds dont bear status like flaming, irradiating etc when we're close combat

so you got to keep swining it? DF1 chainsaw you only swing once and leave it in front and it grinds zeds I guess that DF2 chainsaw mechanics was not added to DF2 shame.

Nope, you just hold it in front of you. When I was mentioning missed swings I meant other melee weapons. Like, if you miss a swing with your axe, because you swing to early and underrestimate the distance, it kinda sucks but with the chainsaws timing doesn't really matter because the worst case is that you waste a ml of fuel more.

I usually find one - one and a half canister of fuel per average apartment complex (no skillpoints invested in looter perk). I's enough to cover fuel losses burnt to find them. Basically It's a "none expense to slight profit ratio" (cars consume significantly more fuel than combat chainsaws). Even zeds that inflict negative statuses in close proximity are killable without exposing oneself to negative effects. (you just need maintain safe distance by moving and hit them with tip of the blade).

well all the weapons are a joke anyway all the damage every weapon does is under 10 this is worse then FO4 weapon damage at higher levels I just gave up playing just now.

I think the chainsaw is not gonna be a mainstream for now. its like df1, early chainsaw is nice but suck because no knocback so you need to watch for distance, puker especially, until grinder comes and rekt every zombies. I guess lvl 50 chainsaw is gonna have a good knockback and more damage per hit

All weapons are more or less player-dependent, actually. Some are easier to use, some are...well, not so. So it's a matter of personal liking. And as usual, everyone is waiting for some sort of a "kill all button" from credit shop. The usual way of things ;)

I think my mistake was doing quests instead of scavenging first as a noobie I think maybe scavenging to level up is safest as a noobie before doing any quests I kept dyeing because I got a few quests to clear out a few buildings as a noobie not a good idea in my opinion for a new player I should know from playing DF1.

There's truth behind this statement indeed. Some Dallbow quests may actually send you to areas above lvl 5, which are dangerous for inexperienced players. So my advice is to level up a bit by looting some buildings (earning some cash in process) to find some gear. And to be as independent from consumables sold by the auctionist, as you can. Cause price fluctuations are off the charts sometimes.

Also, a few bucks can already buy you a better weapon than the one you start out with. You can do the first 5 levels with a normal grade weapon and last I checked those are super cheap to buy.

If you find something, with stats other people won't buy, you can also just "scrap" it at the trader for more than you would get on the market (yes, it's weird, I know). Rare items sometimes come with absolutely worthless rolls but still give a lot of money when scrapped.
