Lore discussion thread (Rusty Lake/cube escape spoilers)

So what are your theories on the story and lore having now finished Paradise?

For me:

1. To state the obvious up front it seems pretty clear from the ending that Jakob Eilander became Mr. Owl.

2. Stemming from the above I think that the game also showed part of his motivation for why he is doing whatever he is doing with Dale and Laura. His mother tells him to stop them from using her memories during the game but unable to do that he is instead trying to undo things after the fact. I also think the rest of the family are the other animals from Hotel and that the reason Mr. Owl kills them is partially for the sake of what he is trying to do and partially vengence for them killing his mother.

3. I think the Eilander family members might have already been immortal throughout Paradise. During the game we see multiple cases where family members seem to die or be dead but they never actually die (the father getting stabbed through the head, the brother being frozen in ice, the uncle getting his heart removed, the grandmother getting carried off by the mantis/locust thing). The only flaw I see in this idea is I thought that drinking the elixir turned you into an animal like what happened with Aldous Vanderboom becoming Mr. Crow which raises the question of why everyone is only dressed like animals in the game.

Specially if you look back at theater and the cave Mr Owl human form is a fat bald Jakob.

What am I confused by is that you put the I will mask on a corrupt soul is that corrupt soul Jakob so if you putting the Owl mask on own another version of him self? Does taking up mantle of the Owl give him some type of dominion over Rusty Lake. I am kind of curious how’s the hotel build. Also sidenote their last names like every last name in the series means islander. Interestingly Dale‘s name means from the lake. In the woman’s last name and inheriting from our favorite family from the tree.

I feel like they were lots of Hints in the last moment of game relating to the formula she is drawling.

An interesting detail I noticed. Caroline Eilander (your character's mother) looks a lot like the woman in the painting from Cube Escape Case 23 of the woman holding the black cube on the platter. I know the painting is a modified variant of a real one but I'm wondering if they might be intending the in world lore to consider it a painting of Caroline herself.

For anyone interested the real painting is "Salome with the head of John the Baptist" I'm not much on religious history so I can't say if who Salome was might have any potential bearing on the character of Caroline.

yet there's 1 problem in comparing all Eilanders to the hotel's guests. According to their official annoucements, they all were born in the period from 1840-1860, smth like that. Either they are just these animals images' secrets will be revealed in the further games or we have a screwed timeline, dunno

Well we do have a screwed timeline, given time travel was involved in Birthday and maybe Seasons, but even so I don't actually think the Elianders are the guests from Hotel. It does seem to show the origin of the significance of those animals, but there doesn't seem to be any concrete evidence to me that the rest of the family ascended along with Jakob. In addition, none of the Elianders except for Gerard really act like their Hotel counterparts.

Fair point, though I found another detail that might help expand on things. As I continued replaying the old games in Birthday Mr. Rabbit references his "past lives" so maybe the Eilander family were past lives of the animal characters.

Jakob become Mr Owl but he gives the corrupt sold that is his mother the Owl mask does anyone understand the symbolism behind that for what does that mean. North of them have a clear idea what exactly happened to Jakob in the Final moments. If you look at the other games with obvious he is Mr Owl. But there was so much that happened in that final moment when he look like he’s being burning alive.

I think Jakob becomes Mr. Owl and becomes enlightened, and the other family members also become the animals from Hotel. I think the blind girl as Ms. Pheasant makes alot of sense considering how she goes in Hotel, and the uncle is very much like the Boar.

It wouldn't make sense for the whole family to try and maintain "paradise" and sacrificing people left and right if it wouldn't make them enlightened too. Your mom tells you not to let them use your memories, but since that doesn't work out she helps you ascend to enlightenment and become Mr. Owl which is why you get revenge on each of the guests in Hotel.
