now what is the best? is very subjetive is just a thing of taste , my personal favorite in the whole series is X4 ost is just very unique and had a 90' atmosphere, the second probably X6 or X , both had a really powerfull sound , both are really energetic , then X8 is my third favorite in the series , is not unique but had a some good songs like jakob or the intro stage , then X5 or X2 , is fine some memorable songs , then X3 and X7 , X7 is weird had 1 or 2 good songs my favorite the jungle i like x7 and i know is bad game , but still like it , x3 i just hate every aspect of that game , forgettable as the ost (really hate the snow theme of that game)
Here's my Hot Take on All of them.
X1 has a feel towards it that really does sound like a jam session with midi instruments, it's the most "human" of them all.
X2 I like a lot of the compositions, but it feels artificial to me if I close my eyes I can see the notes passing a grid.
X3 It's Really good but it's short, It feels like there should have been more each loop. The PSX/Saturn/PC does improve a lot, but the SNES soundfont sounds great too.
X4 It's VERY proto-Synthwave, aesthetically similar but ambitious with it's range. A good number of favorites from this one but also the black sheep because the style wasn't revisited.
X5 It's Good, but Let's be honest with ourselves if the Beta Compositions were combined with the final ones the Soundtrack itself would be perfection.
X6 This goes so hard, Brings X1 vibes to the X5/6 Soundfont, X6 is bad but man the Music is good.... which brings me to...
Also, Showtaro Morikubo. Someone please make X6 Intro R based on his remade tracks of his best album.
X7 This has no business being this good. a Real Slapping Soundtrack to a game that's a slap to the face.
X8 Jacob Elevator. Janne da Arc. Do I need to say any more?
MHX - Comparable to X3, Personally if there's a Better X1 than X1 it's Savage Rigme's Genesis X1.
Overall, I really like X6 and would place it as my fav.
X2 is much better, but sort of blends together and is a bit too repetitive.
X3 is the best of the three on SNES/SFC, the best one being doppler stage 1.
X4 is... meh. it has some standout tracks, but the instrumentation is SO BLAND and some tracks are really mediocre.
X5 is the best so far, an amazing soundtrack with only bad themes being plain remixes and the JP intro theme.
X6 is the best of them all IMO. not a single bad theme.
X7 is second best, same thing but has the X2 issue a bit unlike X6.
X8 is alright, bland instrumentation and a lot of bland themes, but some standouts like JAKOB, the intro, the intro stage, the midboss theme, the "fortress" boss themes and bamboo pandemonium and just maaaybe gravity antonion and the jingles. the rest range from mediocre to plain bad.
MHX is mostly inferior to X1 in all the tracks... except Sigma Stage 1 and Storm Eagle.
Xtreme 1 is mostly decent, with some really good remixes all around, but nothing special.
Xtreme 2 is an improvement over Xtreme 1 and has great remixes.
if i had to pick the worst, it's either MHX if it's allowed, or X4 if not.
heavy disagreement here, my second favorite snow stage theme is that one, first favorite is X6, the rest are not worth listening to IMO.
