PSX Framerates(not emulated)
Does anyone know what frame rate the sprites for Megaman X4 were made for? I feel like some were animated on 2s for 12fps, or 4s for 24fps, given how few frames there are for some of them.

That's not really how sprite graphics work. They would draw sprites and then make the overall animation feel right by adjusting the timing of each sprite.

All animation runs at a certain frame rate. many animated for tv shows would run at around 24 fps. I know that the PSX generally ran between 20-30fps. I'm wanting to know the generalized framerate that the original game ran at because I'm trying to animate in a way that is an homage to that era of gaming.

Now, the game itself, yes, would run at a constant framerate. I'm afraid I don't know that number, but it definitely feels closer to 30 than 20 to me.

Yea, I was curious about the rate the frames were shown because I look at the sprite sheet and see the Idle has 4 frames, and then 6 frames for the blinking part of it. I was thinking of using 6 keyframes for my game's idle animation, possibly try to work in smears and stuff where needed to make a cool effect reminiscent of the PSX era X games.

I'm using 3d models as well, so it's going to be interesting.

Yeah, you can watch and see that the part of the animation where he bobs up and down runs a lot slower than the part where he blinks.
