4th subtank not filling in X1

Im here fighting Sigma for two hours while farming the caterpillars beforehand to fill the subtanks before battle, then I noticed that the 4th subtank isn't filling at all. What do I do?

If you happen to have already unlocked the Hadouken attack, that can make the first two battles a breeze leaving you with plenty of subtank energy for the final form. If not and resetting to see if that fixes it and thus losing your progress so far isn't worth it, then all you can do is play better. 3 subtanks is still a lot of extra energy.

Velguarder is weak to Shotgun Ice and will always get knocked back when hit with a charged shot from your X-buster.

Sigma's first form can be easily manipulated to dash up and down the arena walls by wall-jumping up to a corner, leaving him open to fire, and is susceptible to Electric Spark.

Don't forget that his final form is weak to Rolling Shield.
