Pretty much never use Veronica because she dies quickly and constantly so I have little use for her outside of trash mob mass murder.
EDIT: Oh reasons right.
Jade is really strong with fists imo plus I enjoy her skillset.
Hero because dualwield gigaslash is disgusting along with backup heals.
Sylando because I miss Jessica's skillset, love whips as weapons in DQ and of course hustle dance is extremely useful for the place I'm at in the game.
Rab because he's like a better statted mix of the twins. Plus his background story kinda made me drawn to him as I never met either of my grandfathers so.
Erik because he's the only reliable way to get rare items off of monsters with the steal+itemized kill combo. Plus dualwield daggers are fancy damages. He seems to be able to pull off more damage than Jade if he can get the status attacks off. I almost could see myself giving Sylvando daggers so they could bounce back and forth statuses and big numbers.
Over all once you get Rab I really just find Serena and Veronica lose a lot of their usefulness. Veronica is just too squishy to use for most boss fights in hard mode.
Serena while amazing for pure healing can't do any decent damage. All she can do (so far) aside from a couple low damage wind spells is buff and heal. Even if I got her dual wielding wands with cloth armor and no shield I have a feeling she'll be just as paper thin as Veronica. Her elemental resist hymns do have certain uses for bosses though don't get me wrong.
Erik murders all the little crap with dual-boomeranges. Then the Hero or Jade usually go, and finish off what's left. Sylvando usually doesn't get a turn. :p
But they can do Haulellujah and Eletroc Spark together to make three metals, so that's always easy XP.
All the little crap lil' girl gets rid of by casting bang.
Grandpa heals and hero uses falcon sword, again for doublehit because I didn't unlock that skill yet.
As you may notice, I didn't remember their names. Why? Because I can't remember names of boring people. Bad game writing.
One of my friends loves having all caster parties and just blowing things away with spells. Me, I like my swords. lol
Hero, Jade, Erik, Rab
I have the Hero up front because he is honestly a hecking tank with the equipment I have on him.
Jade is 2nd because she deals the most nonstop consistent high damage, and she can also tank with her high HP.
Erik is up 3rd, duel wielding daggers, I like to rely on his Persecutter skill because it's a 1 hit KO(Most of the time) and I can use the Hero and Rab to cast sleep willy-nilly so Erik can just clean up the rest. Persecutter is seriously OP.
I have Rab sitting 4th, simply because although Veronica has heals for days, She's just not handy for damage what-so-ever, and Veronica is just so squishy, she dies too quickly to be any use in tough fights. Rab however, is handy both ways, and I am just about to unlock the skill which makes Rab's Zing skill work 100% of the time which will be very useful.
Why:
Hendrik, good tank and can cast 2 most buff (kabuff, magical barier), decent damage, decent AOE
Hero: Gigaslah/gash, sword dance
Sylv: Acceleratle, Deceleratle, omhle, hustling dance
Serena: Alma mater , acceleratle, the buff prevent status alignement, Multiheal, 100% rez
why not:
Erik: low damage, no multi target, no uility -> I just use him for stealing
Jade: no multi target but good single target -> sometimes for bosses
Veronica: squishy but usefull debuff and AOE -> for some fight she's great, I use her for angri-la trials
Rab: Slow and squishy, low damage, low heal -> I use him just to transfer mana to other member
hero
jade
veronica
erik ( just to charge up pep so i can steal rare stuff. he is mostly deadweight takes too long to set up damage)
just spam aoe and everything melts within a turn even on hard mode. toss a heal in between battles if needed
for bosses i switch things around depending on what is needed but i almost always keep jade and hero for damage.
