[MAJOR SPOILER WARNING] Grandad's Letter in the Box
Please don't read this if you are just starting or haven't started playing the game yet! You have been warned....

Ok, so... I just dug up the box from in front of the Triangle Shaped Rock with the letters from mom and grandad in there..... and I'm a little confused now, because he says that he met my future self in the letter, so that would mean that he already knows that King Carnelian is bad and throws me (ok, I just realized I'm saying "me" for the protagonist... yeah I really get into RPGs apparently! lol) in the dungeon and burns the village to the ground... But he goes on to say that he wished he would have known that King Carnelian was going to do those bad things.........??!

Am I misreading that or what? Cuz it seems like he knowingly sent 'me' into the hands of a villain and also knowingly doomed the village to destruction, and then writes a letter lamenting the fact that he didn't know these things would happen.

Maybe he had Alzheimer's or something? lol... I dunno, I just thought that was funny. I love this game, but any time you throw time-travel into a story, it's bound to get all muddled in some fashion. Ah well. <3

I have a feeling I know what happened, but I'm not gonna speculate here. I'd rather wait till the end to see if I was right or not.

That's true, I hadn't really thought of that... I literally just got to that scene and then made this post, so there could still be a good explanation coming later that resolves the apparent paradox there... =) And I'm with ya, I don't want to know answers or speculate... just the way it appears right now seems kinda silly, ya know? heh

I'm guessing he investigated the matter and pulled a Dr. Strange, concluding that the only way to save the world was to let all that bad crap happen.

I was thinking that too, but then you'd think he would've just said that instead of claiming to not know what was gonna happen, right? lol, I dunno, I'll keep playing and see what becomes of it! =D

I'm with you, OP. I thought the exact same thing lol

Could he actually be smart enough to know how to avoid a time paradox ? XD. THough yeah that is a plot hole unless he really did that just to avoid creating a time paradox where you would have no reason for the timetravel to tell him what had happened lol.

Maybe it's one of those 'it's just a game, don't read too much into it' kinda things. =D

It's a two-loop time loop only - first time, he didn't meet you, and sent you there. Then you met the kind, and got tossed in the dungeon. Then you meet him in the past and change time, and told him what happened, and then he writes the letter saying he wished he hadn't done that.

But if your present self warned him, he wrote the letter and we did find the letter in the present, it means past actions apply to the present anyway. So he could have told us, after all.

It's a tiny plot hole and time travle always has these issues.
