That's not entirely true unless there is a pile of secret mana recovery accessories that I've somehow missed. The Supplicant accessory is giving me 2 mana ever turn after making it a +2. That's enough to keep the basic spells powered without having to waste a lot of turns with melee attacks to drain mana on either of the casters. I suppose you could always run back to camps to recover mana, but that would be a huge waste of time. There just aren't many mana recovery options in DQ and Supplicant is still great at lv 17 for me (about 10 hours in). Of course, it really is just a time-saver overall. You can always grind more out gold for mana recovery consumables or run back to camps.
I suspect it will be useless later when the low mana spells aren't useful and you've worked out some other mana recovery strategies, but it's definitely a big time saver for a lot of the game.
And it's true that thje MP one is better than the HP one. I hadn't considered upgrading them. Does it regen more MP then?
Yes, they do more when upgraded. MP regen one at +2 gives 2. Other guy said it gives 3 at +3, but I haven't bothered trying to reforge it again yet.
MP one is definitely better due to the few MP regen options. I found the HP one was pretty useless after I got Serena in the party. The MP regen one on Veronica is great for constantly dishing out spells without mana concerns, and I don't see myself dropping it for a long while, although I guess I might reach a point where the stats on new accessories are just too enticing.
I only reforge items that I see they are good at +2 or +3. If not, it doesnt worth it do reforge.
I have yet to find an mp x turn item similar to supplicant tho.. craftable I mean.
Edit: if I remember correctly you get a supplicant from the inn in gondola, or somewhere there, may not be the in ...
