I like dual wielding regular swords with the Hero. For hendrik I like Axes and sometimes GS. Erik can do fine with any weapon but i prefer Knives > Boomerangs > Swords.
Erik should stick with knives till post game then switch to dual wielding swords.
Eight should be Axe+Shield till you get to post game, once you get drustan's sword you can consider switching him to sword/shield.
Hero: GS performs better for the majority of the game. There is a brief period when a Falcon Strike build is better but Unbridled Blade pulls GS ahead again soon. Once you have access to Sword Dance you can use either weapon style.
Erik: Sword never really works out until you get access to Fatal Flash. Then it is decent. Daggers stay good because you can CC in trash fights and get big spikes against bosses. Boomerangs I've never really liked. Magic users tend to out perform them easily.
Hendrick: So the thing about Hendrick is Gyrfalcon is his absolute best dps ability. However sword is absolute garbage in utility and area damage. Axe on the other hand brings an attack that can apply Sap, a high power group target ability, a forced crit for metal hunting and a heavy hitting single target attack with a chance to paralyze. When you are limited in skill points Axe is a no brainer. Later you can fill out both axe and sword and just use what you need when you need it. Changing weapon in combat is a free action.
