How the heck am I supposed to beat this end boss? (SPOILERS FOR ONE OF THE FINAL BOSSES)
I'm fighitng Mordegon and it's just ridiculous. I do have stronger enemies on, but this is just too hard.

My party is at lvl 59, but I still don't stand a chance against this guy. He regularly kills members of my team in one turn and he's got a zillion different status affect attacks and abilities he uses. Then he summons that shadow and it's over. The shadow just keeps buffing him and I can't debuff him because my healers are too busy healing and when I do get to try a Sap or Blunt they always miss.

I'm thinking of just dropping down to normal, but I worry that it will ruin the post-game for me. So far, I've loved the challenge of just regular enemies and most of the bosses have been fun to figure out.

How can I do post-game stuff without beating him first? Doesn't beating him lead onto the post-game after the Fortress of Fear?

I just turned off stronger monsters and fought him and it was stupidly easy. Like, I don't think I want to save over my file with the draconian options on beacuse if he is this easy, I can only imagine that every fight will be totally simple.

Actually, even playing on 'normal' most big boss fights are like that. They are equipped with moves that usually do good damage and inflict 35 different status effects without fail, and last 10 turns.

So then you try to buff your way around it, and it doesnt work because:
- most usefull buff spells are only known to one or MAYBE 2 chars
- most usefull buffs only last a turn or 2
- most usefull buffs are cast on self or single target
- nearly all bosses have a disspell move they spam every other turn, making the buff setup a waste of time you could be using to do damage.

So then you try debuffing the boss and find that:
- debuffs almost never land, even when reducing their 'status effect defence' with boomerangs
- when they do land they usually only last a turn or 2
- have almost zero impact on the boss' damage received and dealt anyway

So the real takeaway is to either grind gear untill you're sick of the game or to go defend on a trash mob untill everyone is pepped up, and then DPS the living hell out of the boss disregarding any healing, buffing and debuffing, before he has any change of doing his 'screw you' moves too much.

I don't mind difficulty, but how they've implemented it it feels just pure RNG luck based. I've seen youtube fights where bosses did not use any of their status moves at all, despite them spamming them every other turn when they did it. I can imagine this being much, much worse with stronger monsters on, and I honestly cannoi comprehend how people can stand it. To each their own I guess.

I will add, there is a way around it, that is crafting 16 catholicon +3 rings and lol at everything, but using that would remove status effects entirely, making it way, way too easy.

edit: I found most things in postgame plenty challenging, especially when going at them slightly underleveled, but certain boss fights are just a major PITA.

SPOILERS BELOW - if you are not yet in postgame the things below will probably not be unlocked yet

I found that opening with hero + rab + veronica + serena works best. Solar flair + magic burst. Pep pop + one of the 4 chars pep moves.
If something is still moving, attack untill these four are dead, and have the other four mop up what's left.

Yeah, I don't hate the system, but this boss fight is crazy.

I've kept Stronger Monsters on but I turned off the less Xp gain thing. That isn't really adding anything to the game. If I need to grind, all it does is slow it down.

+ I did the whole Hallejuhah + Electrolight and killed a king slime and 2 vicious ones and got no xp at all because I had to kill one of the enemies in the mob beforehand but didn't. That doesn't happen with less xp off.

Hmmm... i was 62 when i beat him but i actually thought the fight was rather easy. I thought Jasper was waaaaay harder, so since you beat him i'm sure you can beat Mordegon too.

Here's how i played:
I noticed early on that 2 healers were too much so i swapped to 2 DDs. That left me with Hendrik (as a tank with greatshield), MC with greatsword, Jade with spear and Serena for heals.
All hendrik does is kabuff. If partymembers have the buff up and it wasn`t dispelled, he tries to hit axe attack with defense debuff to renew or apply the def debuff to mordegon.
For your DDs: The MC should 2 shot the clone with unbrindling blade (or whatever its called). That means the clone only acts once, usually casting kabuff. If you're unsure, have Jade hit him once too, altough for me it was a guaranteed 2 shot.
Serena either heals when necessary, omphles the MC or casts sap on mordegon, blunt if def debuff is already applied.

With 2 DDs, the fight ends before the second clone comes out.
Should you really struggle to keep you party alive, i'd swap Jade for Sylvando who can buff the MC and group heal. The battle will take a lot longer like this though.

And i don't know if you've seen yet, so a slight spoiler ahead:
For the second fight, magic barrier is completely OP. Have it up and your party will stay at full life no problem.

Alright that sounds like a plan. I'm going to level everyone up once more and then give your method a go.

What is this axe attack that debuffs that Hendrick can use? I've got him on sword and shield and MC on sword and shield as well. I'll try with MC on Greatswords though.

Yiasmat Sep 30, 2018 @ 1:41am
MC on greatsword is the best DD in the game. I think with him on omphle and Mordegon on def debuff, you hit for 1.2k per unbrindling blade (or whatever its called).

I like the axe on Hendrick. He has 2 attacks that sometimes decerase the enemies Def. Helm splitter and one other one. Both are in the axe tree. The first for less mana does -1 debuff, the second does -2 def debuff (if the debuff hits).

Just to give a 3rd opinion, the guy with the double sided sword at the entrance of the palace is the one that gave me the most trouble lol
Yiasmat Sep 30, 2018 @ 1:57am
Also: i forgot to mention: if you do farm, Grotte de la fonte on the strand leading to gallopolis is the best spot. Run down and back up (at night. there are a crap load of... crabs there). Rest if Mp is low and repeat.
The crabs, the goblins and the red slayer of the sand thingies die super quick and give just as much exp as the enemies in the fortress of fear.
Plus you have the bonus of metal hands appearing. Maybe have erik with his guaranteed critical hit to take them out.

And as always: pep up MC + Jade + Sylvando for electrolight. Kill the kingslime with eriks guaranteed crit and hope the others dont run away.

What? Really?

I found that fight extremely weird. He literally stood zero chance against me. I hit him with a blunt or two and got my def buffs up and he could barely scratch me. Easiest fight in the game so far. Then all the monters inside have been easy, but then Jasper and Mordegon were a whole different league.

I'll try that area. I've been doing Hallejuah +electrolight and getting about 200k per time. ONly takes me about 10 mins to pull off.

Yeah, he even killed me. I guess RNG wasn't on my side or something. Similarly, I've seen people have trouble with the giant squid and I killed it in literally a minute.

The right setup and some luck go a long way.
Yiasmat Sep 30, 2018 @ 2:19am
well... i hit a brick wall when i got to slayer of the sands.
next one, but not quite as tough was on dora. and after her i.... oneshot every single boss. I was really dissapointed that the game got so easy, i already skipped most mobs already.
So i was really psyced that jasper (and mordegon) were finally a good challenge

This worked pretty much perfectly. I couldn't take down the shadow in two hits though with unbridled blade. I had to hit it with Jade's multi thust and Kendricks flurry axe attack at least two turns to take it out.

Thanks for the help.
