Ni no Kuni was one of the reasons why I bought PS3 long ago, and it's hard to forget the disappointment. I've only played the first one, but it's basically Pokemon with less monster variety and the companion AI is so awful it hurts. It's actually the very opposite of what DQ11 is in this sense. Monster variety and their designs is one of the areas where DQ11 shines the most... Ni no Kuni sucks at it. You constantly face the same monsters over and over again, only in different colors, and their designs are as simplistic as it can get. And when I say you face them in different colors I mean like thorough the damn game, as it almost immediately runs out of monster designs.

ah, you mean his favorites: DragonBall FighterZ, Granblue Fantasy, Final Fantasy 8 Remastered, and Super Neptunia RPG
You could also try one of the YS or Trails games if you’re more interested in combat than story.
