I can't stand english dub. Is there some mod that chages audio into original japanese one?

The way the fans of English dub talk to people who want Japanese voices, is the reason why people laugh at you when you don't get English dub in other games.
Thank you. I remember the times when Japanese voices being included were a rarity and you are right. It is probably an exclusive agreement with Nintendo and so I will play it on the Switch later.

Sorry but no.
I'm an old player (I got my first system in 1985)..... And when we were asking for Dual Audio in early 2000 (English+Japanese) because the DVD support could handle it.... all we got was : STFU Weeb who care about Japanese DUB ROFL"....

The agression was here.... And people who wanted just the JP Voices started to get annoyed by that "superior" attitude and started to "fight" back....

And it was even more annoying for European JRPG Fan because more than 50% of those JRPG never got a PAL release.... And the import price for the US NTSC were just plain absurd (i still remember the price for the PS version of PS FF tactics, Tales of Destiny and PS2 Tales of the Abyss and Grandia III....And i still feel the pain)

I'm an even older player (first system in 1982 if you think that means anything) and this is nonsense.

The attitude was entirely spurred on by folks insisting the Japanese voices were always superior (even when Japanese dubs were pretty mediocre at the time) and attacking anyone who disagreed.

The "STFU weeb" stuff was triggered by people being huge asses and bragging they were going to pirate games just because the Japanese voices weren't including and insulting anyone who tried to explain the nightmare licensing was in Japan at the time.

Because it was a nightmare and the main reason we didn't get dual audio back then was Japanese companies literally not understanding why folks in other countries would want to listen to a different language then their own as the Japanese norm was to dub absolutely everything into Japanese at the time. Contracts were written for Japan only and the Japanese VA agencies weren't interested in reopening them.

I worked in the industry at the time and it was extremely frustrating to know the voices were simply not available at all yet you weren't allowed to say that due to NDAs.

If someone has the Switch version and is willing to provide a copy of the "pakchunk0-Switch.pak.00", "pakchunk0-Switch.pak.01", and "pakchunk1-Switch.pak.01" files:
  • We would be able to run a QuickBMS script on it to dump the UE4 assets (located here: https://zenhax.com/viewtopic.php?p=51295#p51295 )
  • Take the .uexp and .uasset files for the voiceovers (located in the JackGame\Content\Sounds\Voice directory inside the .pak)
  • We'll be able to use DQXIHook (the same tool from OOM) to re-inject over the existing voiceovers at runtime
It's the same technique used by this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonquestxi/mods/89

I thought the newer DQ games have no voice acting in Japan, only English translated versions get voice acting. I loathe dubbed games but sometimes we have to bear through it to play titles like DQ. I do wish a patch come out for PC though since I heard the switch version has that option. I do enjoy Japanese voices and English text since English dubbing is normally darn awful.

*pssst*, I have heard some rumblings that there is someone working on exactly this, but I won't say any more than that, lest to put any additional undo pressure on them ;)

It’s pretty good in this game for the most part as far as video game voice acting goes.
Sure it’s no persona, but it’s definitely better than most games with voice acting.
I'm so sick of hearing about how the English dub is good in this game that game blah blah, because when I try it it's freaking terrible, like Trails of Cold Steel or FFVIIR. They always cast some old women to dub young girl characters so they sound way too old and every game must have at least one volley girl accent.

Yeah, Gemma's VA in english just like an auntie trying hard to voice a young girl, I hate that. When I tried the Switch version and JP dub, Gemma sounds fine though. Just like a girl not an aunt.

It’s pay someone old to try and sound young, or pay someone young to try and be not terrible at voice acting.
The first one is possible, the second one isn’t.
If you want the "original japanese experience" just turn the voice volume to 0. The voices become beeps with certain tones for each character.
I should say I've seen a lot of people mention this and hopefully somebodies able to make a mod eventually. But I should point out, the differences in versions are pretty significant between the Switch and Steam version, so it's not as easy as dragging and dropping one set of files over to another.

Bingo. There's a lot more going on behind the scenes..As it is, the team has run into a snag with one of the existing injection tools previously used for modding the music: the voice line files in the game have an additional MTRL entry in the SAB header, so they're looking into modifying the tool so that it can be handled correctly.

Everything else has been falling into line, however. If all goes well, we could soon have a true Japanese language mod (from the assets of the Switch version)!

Why do you always talk in headers?

Hmm, so he got banned... LMAO. Some people need to learn how to participate in discussions constructively on this forum. You can state your opinion without making broad generalizations on opposing viewpoints.

On a side note, the team is still working on porting the Switch Japanese voices to PC for the language mod. Some of the naming conventions have changed between versions, so there's been some extra work involved in documenting those. It should go without mentioning that the new dialogue added to sequences exclusive to the Switch version will be omitted from this mod.

We should be grateful we got VA for this game, meanwhile PS4 players dont have a voice at all, they're going back to year 2000
