I don't really want to add much more because that might include some spoilers.
Alright then I'll just try my luck since this spot I'm at is decent grind as is without the chance of killing metal slimes.
How much do they give btw?
The key to killing them is to use abilities that either miss or crit. They'll usually miss the metal slimes anyway, but crits are guaranteed to hit and one-shot the metal slimes.
Even healers and casters should mele them. I only ever see 1's or 2's when hitting them, never any 0's. You will have 4 attacks to every move the metal slime gets, and their health is very low (check in your beastiary, i forget exactly, but its extremely low). so if you keep at it eventually you will killl one and they give out 2k XP
Anything that does multiple hits without having an element is worth considering, as you will have more chances of hitting and possibly critting. Especially valuable if that character doesn't get some form of Metal Slash.
Anything with severe crit rate and miss rate, like Thunder Thrust, is arguably *more* accurate than your normal attacks against a Metal Slime type, and getting a hit with these is an automatic crit, which should also mean a kill.
If you don't have any of the above, your best bet is to stack Critical Chance effects and just pray your normal attacks trigger it.
Aside from that, you just gotta hope they don't run away.
Spells won't work, with the exception of one character who has an extra strong sleep pep power that even works on metal slime. Really useful for when you find a group and keeping them from running.
