Deftness vs steal %

I dont see how anyone could be so sure that deftness raises steal % chance. I have the +30 and +10 perks and never noticed a difference. But with the robber gloves on i can notice a huge difference. The robber gloves also have a seperate tooltip that says "chance of successfully stealing items" and when you upgrade it, that stat increases.

After a quick google search a few days ago i just believed that deftness is a variable in your chance to steal. Thats what the few people who answered were saying. Does anyone have proof of this anywhere? I believe it does not change your stealing rate. I could be wrong too, but i dont see why you would even bother adding an extra buff that increases chance to steal as well as deftness if your chance to steal was tied to deftness.

I dont think any variable other than chance to steal increases your chance to steal.

Erik's steal rate is calculated as Deftness/20, meaning that every 20 points will increase his chance for success by 1%. With his guile bonuses this brings the maximum rate to 75%.

Similarly, the critical hit rate is calculated as Deftness/200, with limits the natural cap to 5%.
