As tempted as I was to do dual-wield, I went the safe route with the hero and did sword and shield for him. ^^
You can make Erik or Sylvando dual wield as well, but I think their panels are in different places from the Hero. Erik's is in Knives I beleive. ^-^
And I think Sylvando's panel for that is in swords as well.
Also, due to the way that strength scaling and defense interact, you're going to hit different points in the game where Greatswords & spears outshine DW and vice-versa. Greatswords are stronger in early game and then quickly become overshadowed until the postgame, at which point the huge defense boosts that enemies get will make DW damage pathetic for a while. As you gain levels and get some of the best 1h weapons again, things begin to even out, though.
Sorry my bad. XD I'll edit that.
yupp.
but Erik can always land a sure crit hit which makes you able to snipe any metal... ofc you wont always have Erik in your party maybe when you enouncter a slime and then equipping that extra sword for metal slash is def worth it, OR you even equip two falcon blades and you do 8 dmg per hit.
Although it only surpasses the usefullness of Greatswords if you also have 'no shopping' and 'strong enemies' active.
The reason for this is that without shopping, the strongest weapons you have access before proceeding to the next area are often single-handed swords... although regrettably often they are rare drops from annoying/rare enemies and you also need to reforge them to +3... still.
You also get twice the hits, meaning, twice the chance to crit and ignore enemy defence.
That said, late-post game the Greatswords CAN outperform them if only for the chance of completely negating damage and the extra counterattacks... especially if you use the defence stance...
And trust me, on a full Draconian run, that's not a bad idea...
