Sword and shield Vs. Great Sword?

personally ive started going great sword but im not sure its a good idea based on what im seeing

main hereo btw not the others.

Greatsword all the way. Way better than sword and skills like sword dance can be used with both so no reason to hesitate. Btw you wanna Serena use spear and get thunder thurst asap so you can hunt metal slimes easy, same with Jade give her spear. it's her best weapon. Makes leveling very fast and easy. Also don't let sword skill metal slash fool you it's crap. You wanna use sword dance on slimes. It's still crappy on them but swords/greatswords don't have good slime hunting skills. Only spear and axe does.

I used duel swords because personally, greatswords on a skinny character just looks silly.

In case you ever go crazy and do all draconian options at once: you are not allowed to use shields, so in such scenario use Greatswords or dual wield only. Actually, just greatswords...

Mods will eventually change or replace the main character to something beefier. We already have loads of mods being added to the nexus weekly

greatsword lacks any good attacks that hit all enemies and i find that attacks that hit groups are utter crud most of the time because the enemies usualy show up in singles or pairs with 1 or 2 other groups. great sword is good for single target damage but utterly fails when it comes to hitting all enemies and thats why i use sword and shield on my main character for gigagash and being able to hit all targets for a huge amount of damage is absolutly neccassary when trying to complete wheel of harma. quadraslash does good damage against all targets but gigagash is even better. pretty much with 1 handed sword you are sacrificing the best single target damage is the game for the best attacks that hit all enemies in the game but then again i think that using divide with boomerangs and oomple is a tad bit better but still using oomple on your main character before he uses gigagash can not be underestimated. also the best attack to kill metal slimes in the game is eriks critical claim because it never mises and always crits wich is perfect for killing metal king slimes.you can 1 hit kill them with hatchet man but hatchet man is a bit unreliable and gives the metal slime an oppertunity to flee.

Right. Forgotten about Erik tough his skill is from Guile it's not any weapon skill. He can use it with just any weapon. And yes greatword lack all enemies attack but group damage it does is insane compared to sword. If you use best Giga sword move it will cost 32 mp and will deal around 490 damage to all enemies with all stats 999 on user [best test cause weapon damage doesn't matter anymore] . Meanwhile heliochopper will deal 500 damage to group with cost 4 mp. Only drawback is final greatsword is light element which is bad. Many enemies resist light, but never met one resisting lightning from supreme sword of light tough. Well in the end i think it doesn't matter both are good enough to beat game and equally bad in hunting slimes.

the thing is ive found that group attacks for the most part in this game are almost useless and specialy in the wheel of harma trials where like 5 or more enemies show up but they arent in groups. also i think the damage of gigagash depends on the enemy that it hits because ive done over 500 damage with it non crit and not being anywhere near 999 attack.

Dual wield on MC sucks, well compared to Erik dual that is. I'd rather equip shield and have 10 mp regen each turn from it.

Also if you wanna hit all enemies with greatsword you can use quadraslash. It's the same as giga attacks,also magic, costs the same amount of mp, can be used with any weapon and deals about the same damage. Tbh i use sword and shield now cause enemies resist my Brilliant Sword a lot [light element] and i like Erdwin's Shield MP regen. It's useful cause i use Irdwin Set due to apperance. I don't like Erdwin Set apperance even tough effects are good.

ive found that quadraslash actualy does a bit less damage for me like somewhere in the 350 range while gigagash does around 500 and this is at like level 64. i remember when i did the wheel of harma 3rd trial my main character did 500 damage with gigagash to the 2 headless horsemen enemies and the 4 armed gladiator looking dude. i also forgot to mention there are enemies that quadraslash works better on for some odd reason but ive found it isnt alot.

I think it might depend on enemy as you said. Try skills on the same enemies. For me Quadra and giga skills hits about the same. Saying about cause it varies like +-30. And cause enemies resist Brilliant Blade i'm less motivated to use greatsword nowdays [waiting for tool allowing mod game files so i can remove that pesky light element from GS]. Sure i could use metal king greatsword or berserker but i don't like their apperance so yeah.
