I like Erik too since he is the first that joins and he saved the hero from a very nasty situation in the early game. IS he the best mathematically speaking? Maybe not. Can you play well and have fun? Yes.
Or you can just go the harem route and place the female waifus in your group lol
I'm at the point in the game now in Act 2 once Erik has finally returned to the party and his Skill Grid has fully unlocked. I rushed straight down for Dual-Duality & also got Dual-Wielding, but didn't have enough SP to also go up to get Divide just yet. Still with this build, just basing it on the "normal" Attack option, Erik's damage output is lower than the other 5 members currently on the team. Of course skill usage makes the results much different however, and Divide will certainly give him a good boost once I get to that again though, but I opted to get Dual-Duality first for some reason. \o/
At this point in the game, Hero has hit for as much as like 650 damage with a Sword Dance while boosted with Oomphle, Eighth has hit for like 530 damage with Parallax while boosted with Double Up, and Jade with Multithrust boosted 2x with Re-Vamp has hit for around 450 damage, Rab with Animaul does like 300 damage, and Sylvando does around 200 damage to each enemy with Pink Pirouette, while Erik with Persecutter hits for like 450 damage.
Only Erik, NOT THE CLONES has a % chance to crit. So if his first 3 hits don't crit, none of them do. HOWEVER, if ANY of his 3 hits crit, the clones will ALSO crit that hit. IE, if hit 1 out of 3 crits, then BOTH clones will crit with their first hits. I've watched Erick crit will ALL NINE HITS.
Even without crits, the damage of MORE hits actually outpaces the damage of stronger hits. Especially given the fact that none of Erik's blows in that setup are at reduced damage.
Edit: A great example of why more hits is better is the Hero with Sword Dance. Using a greatsword you get 6 blows. Using two swords you get 8. Despite the fact that there is a noticeable difference between the power of those individual hits, the extra 2 hits still pushes two swords to the top of the damage pile for the Hero.
