There are tons of better JRPG , especially from the 90s.
Grandia 1+2, Lunar 1+2, Suikoden 1-5, Vagrant Story, Skies of Arcadia and so on.
All way better JRPG then Tales, especially in the story department.

Nowadays, Ys series and Legend of Heroes series are FAR better then anything Tales.
Final Fantasy peaked at 9 and has not been good for a long time though, i agree with that.

lunar is the dragon quest but far more worster gradia same thing but grandia 2 is better then a lot of ff games

but as i said tales of phantasia just better then all of this game you named

better gameplay character development epic fantasy epic fights epic dungeons and 200 hours plus gameplay

im not talking about revolutionary skits system dialogs background and etc ah AND COOKING SYSTEM

and all this games what you name above vagrant story its just happy fantasy with typical scenario cant even compare to eternia and even destiny

suikoden 1-2 better then lunar and grandia overall and skies of arcadia is good for exploring but scenario is just another happy pirate like fantasy anyway

vagrant is dark but stupid because you got for example octopath traveler or let us cling toghever from the same art author whic is extremely better then vagrant story

legend of dragoon is the golden age of rpg

and this rgps are the real mediocre

I find it funny people tend to associate JRPGs with good stories and Tales pretty much has none of it. Nobody realistically should be playing a Tales game for story, it's like trying watch Fast & Furious for story.

well if you have like iq 50 then yes tales of the abyss got no story at all

If you have low IQ, then these stories should be very enjoyable. Easily digestible, simple generic stories, characters repeat the same points x100 times.

I say this as a lover of Tales and Final Fantasy and a majority of JRPGs.

While I love the Tales of Series, it is by no means the best JRPG series by a long shot. You can’t just take out any entry in the Tales Series and say it’s award winning. A good deal of the Tales games have flaws in gameplay, Story, etc that prevents them from being one of the best.

It is entirely possible to like David Lynch and the Avengers simultaneously for different but equally valid reasons.

There's nothing inherently deep about the Tales games. They're closer to a lower budget blockbuster than some experimental David Lynch film.

The Tales games were for sure not meant to have some deep underlying message, I can agree with that.

It’s nice having a simple story to follow along with, but calling it the best series is just too far of a stretch imo.

Which is completely fine. The Tales games are very accessible to a wide audience because of their simple mechanics and story. The OP over here calling Tales games the coming of christ because it provides some deep revelation or something. I argue it's the exact opposite, you want to your mind to spend little effort digesting something, you play a Tales game.

That's what I like about the series. Simple but enjoyable story with a good gameplay.

As much as I love the Tales Series, you’re exactly right. It’s meant to be simplistic and enjoyable for a wide range, but it is by no means some benchmark game that all other games need to follow after.

A majority of the time, the Tales games are simple stories, there’s a bad guy, you go beat them. Bad guy’s beaten? There’s a bigger plot behind it all you have to resolve.

There are some entires in the series, that have a slight deep meaning but it still isn’t enough to call the entire series itself some god tier series.

And that is fine. If you personally like Tales best and it gives you more enjoyment then those other games that is 100% valid. For you.
Personally, i like about 90% of the games you just named way more then Tales but again, just MY personal opinion and how i feel about the franchise.
Its not some declaration of universal truth.
