Question about skits.
I finally got this to run on my pc, after tweaking the settings, but I still get a fatal error whenever I try to view a skit. Will I be missing anything truly important (not just story, I mean) if I never bother with viewing skits?

A lot of character advancement, and the skits contribute a lot to the relations that develop within the party.

Yeah i would say the skits are somewhat important. At least if you truely care about the characters and the story.
This game does rely on story and character development though so i wouldn't want to play it without the skits.

I know, but every time I try to view a kit, any skit, the game gives me a fatal error and crashes. I don't know why skits would trigger that, but I've checked it, and it's definitely the skit that crashes it. If anyone has any ideas why, or how to fix it, I'd love some advice. As it is, I'm thinking of asking for a refund, since missing out on skits will mean missing out on a lot of plot points.

You must watch the skits to unlock the second mystic arts.

The skits are the main character development which is what the Tales series is about, which makes you care about the main story. I wouldn't even play the game without them tbh

The story also triggers skits sometimes automatically regardless of your opinion.

Yeah, a lot of stuff in the game will trigger skits automatically.
There are way over 300 skits in the game, you wont be able to avoid them all.
Better try to find a fix for your crashing problem i say.

I would not bother playing without the skits. The game is going to be hollow, and anyway there are some unavoidable ones.

Random guess, check your video drivers are up to date. This is running on a recent build of Unreal Engine and they tend to like using bleeding edge features which are sometimes unstable or missing in older driver versions. If yes, check that you have enough VRAM to meet minimums. I don't know but I'd guess that would be the first bottleneck. Try turning textures all the way down and running in fullscreen first.

Yeah, that's how I figured out it was the skits causing the fatal errors. After the scene near the beginning of the game, where the protagonist pulls out that fiery sword (trying to avoid spoilers, sorry), there's a skit right afterwards and my game crashed there every time. I finally skipped the skit, and it at least let me get past it to save my game.

Then when you reach the first campsite, it crashed again every time I tried to watch a skit. I have no idea why, or what specifically about skits could be triggering the crash. Since I can't get a refund for the game, I'm hoping to maybe be able to play it through, and perhaps do a second playthrough if I can figure out what the problem is and fix it.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this, or how to fix it? I've verified the game files, moved the install folder to my C drive, and updated my graphics driver. Without being able to view skits, I'm afraid the game will be all but unplayable, since I'll be missing so much of the character interactions and backstory.

This seems like a really bizzare bug.
What exactly happens if you watch a skit? Crash to desktop?
Do you get any error message at all?

What exactly is your hardware? CPU, GPU and your OS?

If I try to view a skit, it will run fine for a short while, and then crash. It never makes it through the entire skit, and the error message reads 'Fatal error! Game has crashed and will close.'. I've checked the error logs, and they're always the same, and pretty much useless since it doesn't seem to tell you much.

[CrashReportClient]
bHideLogFilesOption=false
bIsAllowedToCloseWithoutSending=true
CrashConfigPurgeDays=2

As I've said, I've tried it multiple times, with three different skits, and it always crashes before I can finish the skit. The only way to get around it is to trigger the skit, and then immediately skip it.

Thanks for the link Xengra, I'm going down the list and trying things one by one. Hopefully something will work...

I found this comment on Reddit which seems similar:

I was getting fatal errors in various cutscenes/skits and nowhere else. A suggestion on Steam was to uninstall all of your Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributions then redownload and install them from Microsoft's website. After that, I haven't crashed once between the final fight in Elde Menancia (third area) and nearing the end of the fourth area.

Maybe try that?

That seems to have mostly fixed it, thank you very much Ogami! If I take too long reading the text in the skit, the characters get weird textures and eventually it will still crash, but I can usually get through the skit if I read fast. Thanks again for the help, everyone!
