Initial choice doesnt really matter as you can change it any time. That said normal was fine for me. Did side quests for skill points but never had to grind and skipped a lot of skippable fights.

Some game do matter tho, like when I was playing some game like SRW from bandai on normal mode, and ended up becoming too powerful too early in the game and overpowered the entire game even if I changed to hardest difficulty.

I have to restart the game after 10 hours of playing

Based on what you're saying, it sounds like this game normal mode is easy that you don't even have to fight normal mobs? I might play it or hardest difficulty and lower difficulty if the game kick my ass

My 2 cents: I'd go hard tbh, at least it forces you to get into the game's economy, purchase consumables and so on, i wouldn't consider the lower difficulties challenging at any point, if you're not new to JRPGs.

^This.

You will only struggle in hard with second boss (and maybe a later Boss, because poor AI) because mechanics and lack of damage in your first playthrought (no spoiler, so you have to figure out). The rest feels like a fair fight. Keep in mind that the higher the level the easier it gets (game was designed to have the materials for upgrades when avaliable).

Also there is a soft cap level, so there is no point into grind too much. Just manage heal items like #3 says.

I've been playing JRPGs for 35 years and I found normal challenging.
