Ooze Hive Boss (or "how to convince a happy player to quit")
First time I play a game of this series and in general a JRPG.

Until Ooze, I played at Moderate Difficulty and I reached level 12 without any problems (I don't remember, but probably I died only 2-3 times in 9 hours of game).

Now I'm stuck in the sewers, I can't go out because the door is blocked, and I have to fight with a boss which clearly is too big for me (Ooze with a jump oneshots me or my companions) and with a combat too long for my team to survive (I have few objects and money to buy them).

I lowered the difficulty to Normal, I read a lot of posts with possible strategies, I better understand game mechanics (Rinwell interruptions, strikes, etc..), but nothing has really changed.

What's the point in putting such a difficult boss at the beginning of the game, when the player is clearly too weak, inexperienced and without the possibility of going back?

I'm about to quit playing ToA and it's too bad, because the game is really cool.

Did you try the easiest difficulty?
An alternative is to load an earlier save file.

Game literally gives you the easiest and hardest difficulties as free dlc; Go claim em, switch to the easiest, romp the boss and move on.

I've been playing through on Unknown from the start, and the ooze gave me some trouble for sure- But I managed to kill it. You should be able to as well. Single most important thing I can note is murder the small oozes first, dont let them linger around.

Further more, boss fights are, in general, different than normal fights- You really need to focus on dodging and look for prime opportunities to attack; The boss will pretty much always target you, and only you, leaving your party free to be on the offense.

Also, Change up your gear- I can't remember if there's an accessory crafter in the sewer or not, but if there is, figure out what type of damage the boss is doing and craft accessories that reduce that kind of damage by 50% (Most likely its doing water damage); This is something you're going to want to do for most bosses going forward- Learn what kind of damage they do and equip accessories accordingly- so get used to it. You can change gear mid-fight at any time, so you can hot-swap to defense or damage gear as needed to suit the circumstances.

Edit: Also, Have you attempted to fast travel? You may not be able to backtrack on foot, but you should be able to fast travel by the point of the game you're at, which'd let you exit the area and go gather materials and whatnot to prep for the boss fight.

If I am not mistaken this boss uses water elemental attacks. Try crafting accessories that resist the water element. In this game, it is better to worry about defense and survival than offense.
The combat can get messy with all the effects, and everyone attacking at the same time.
Always check if the enemies are not targeting you, before going in for an attack. When you attack, avoid mashing and/or queuing too many many actions, because the enemies love to interrupt you, and often get critical hits this way which deal a lot of damage.

Git gud my casual friend, this game ain't even hard. Many veterans beat Ooze on highest difficulty with no problem without using items.

Thanks for your reply! Your advices make sense for me. Unfortunately fast travel is locked and there's a crafter, but he doesn't craft accessories to reduce water damage (only light/darkness).
I use Rinwell and generally I am the last one that dies in this combat (Alphen is pretty much the first one), so I have the doubt that I'm missing something important about team strategy.
I claimed DLC with the 2 extrems difficulties, so I could switch to the easiest one.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the advice dude, I didn't know there's an attack queue, but I'll try.

I haven't tried yet, I'll do if necessary. I save very often, but for some reason my previous save is 4 hours before :(

Playing this again for keks, still always reminds me how this boss is the point where it exposes how awful the party member AI is. They just run into attacks and die.

That and the boss spawning several waves of adds that are unnecessary damage sponges in their own right, which turns the fight into a disaster of green orbs flying and water pillars from under you while the boss itself is spamming the slam attack that's trudge to learn timing to roll through.

Hardest boss in game bar none, it's just silly all in all. Spam Life Bottles and pray that everyone doesn't run into the boss' dumb stun roar and die in idiotic fashion.

Don't worry. It's by far the hardest boss in the game, and the only thing that gets even remotely close is when a re-skin of the boss comes later, when you're way better equipped to handle it, in a completely optional area.
