Install size increased by roughly 50%
The new update appears to have increased the install size of the game by roughly 25 GB, despite only being a 2 GB download.

Not sure what's going on with that, but it makes the system requirements listed on the store page of 45 GB outdated, as the game's current size is 65.37 GB.

This increase in size can be seen on SteamDB:
https://steamdb.info/patchnotes/8190621/
Notably, the files that increased in size appear to have been pretty small before, as the _0_P paks appear to be 12.02, 6.38, and 6.48 GB in size now, as compared to the increase in size that these got of 11.82, 6.22, and 6.20 GB respectively.

Those files were only a few hundred MB when they were added in October last year:

Kind of seems like content from the base WindowsNoEditor paks might have been shoved into the _0_P chunks, because that's a pretty shocking size increase for all of these, which now rival the size of the base WindowsNoEditor paks.

Well, as a test, I deleted all of the base WindowsNoEditor paks.

The game still seems to work fine. Not that I've thoroughly tested it, but I played through roughly 40 minutes of the game from the start with no issues. This lends itself to the idea that all the content from those was copied over into the _0_P chunks, with those now being used to access all that content.

Basically, we seem to have 24.6 GB of redundant data that appears to be doing nothing.

Yeah, The Arise-SDK mod is also not working. PAK mods do seem to work tho.

The EXE has also been completely changed in this update, breaking SDK & other DLL mods, from the nexus page:

Some reason this update has changed the EXE massively (even though it was only supposed to add some Scarlet Nexus items to the game...), almost every function has been mangled & had the body split up from the prologue section, with sometimes thousands of bytes between them...

Haven't really seen anything like that before, maybe a compiler option was changed, or the game was built incrementally instead of a clean-build, something like that.

Anyway this has had the unfortunate effect of breaking all the signatures that Arise-SDK scans for it in the game... will mean that I'll probably have to go through this new update & find all the functions we patch manually, not an easy fix sadly, I'll try looking into it over the week, & hopefully should have a fixed build by the weekend or so.

Pretty strange update really, kinda hoping they'll put out another one to fix these weird filesize & EXE changes, but of course we all know that won't happen...

its usually bc the content of a patch has to be implemented into the game properly which means even old data that has been slightly adapted needs to be redownloaded for the whole game to work. nothing unusual nowadays.

No, it's absolutely not normal for a patch 0.05x the size of the game to bring the game's size to 1.5x its stated system requirements size.

The download size was only 2 GB. The game size increased by over 10x that amount.

I noticed something here - the added "_3_P" paks are roughly the same sizes as the old "_0_P" packs were

Weird

Hey Lavian, I think there's a 99% chance you're right about those files you mentioned. I checked out those same files, too. I think they're just old files that didn't get deleted. For what it's worth, I have this on Steam as well as PS5 and the PS5 got the same update. It was around 37GB before the update and still sitting at 37GB after.

Seems fixed with todays patch (April 6th 2022) - 41GB install here.

I just had another update that gave back the 25 GB of space a few minutes ago. Don't know what it was since i don't want to mess with the game data files.

We got the space back on the _0_P.pak files, apparently.

Seems like someone forgot to do the cleanup after the patch, the last "patch" fixed.
