Nearly HALVE of my 70 hours was Velvet being a Frelling idiot. Did it get better? NO! for aditional 10 hours straight not. the final 25 hours or so? She began to change, she then opened up again, revealing who she realy is.
I imagine a game, wich basicaly is 3 times larger and has like 5 times more content (including you can fight Eizen, the coolest dude ever to be in a Tales of game)(oh, and you can fish later on, not jumping into the water, actualy FISH!), will take an equal amount of time.
Oh and no, she is not nessesary Tsundere. When she opens up somewhat yes you can see she absolutely is. At the beginning thou? Nope. Nowhere near close. She is rather a subtype of Yandere more so than tsundere. Althou you see , especiel when doing a certain "sub" quest (You have to do it regardless), she WANTS to hug the child , but stops herself. She also wants to cuddle Hootle, you see that like 24/7 with her).
So again : Patience. You will get there eventualy. Velvet did change too and it took most of the game for that. Same for other, more prominent main chars. Cloud? 50% FF VII needed for him to CHANGE HIS THINKING(The OG one that is). Grandia? Both of them (1 and 2 that is)? Justin needs the ENTIRE GAME to become basicaly what he is supposed to be. He is a child and has his naive thinking for like THE ENTIRE GAME. Ryuudo? Same for him, only after loosing his love (Yes, he is more Millenia than Elena, wich he proves multiple times), he switches (wich is also nearly the ENTIRE game... he is badass thou and does not go on your nerves that much(thou he is dense as a True Tsundere... wich he is for said 95% of the game)
Oh and yes, she is like the game points out perfectly, not acustomed to be surounded by others. She KILLED others by ACCIDENT, thats what even the intro shows you so this is no spoiler, thus she was threated as outsider (Naruto Style). Obviously she wants to go down fighting as she never HAD a chanze to solo even the weakest of the Lords herself.... I only want to know what kind of Battleship they find to basicaly END the war that will come even if they kill all lords wich is a hard strech... Berseria had us go up against the church wich one does easily as they dont realy utilize tech that much. Here? We are on what i can only describe as Garmilon fighting ISCANDAR(With Garmi being the slaves btw. remember: 2199 told us Iscandar invented the WMG and OVERUSED it... imagine 2205 seeing the Asuka shield etc. and Strasha only "Pah... you came far in developing that tech in such a short amount of time, but can you make entire planets shift out of phase? no? go play in the sandbox then!). Thats not a match, its a one sided slaughter!
Think of her as a tsundere that has suffered from extensive personal isolation and doesn't really quite get interacting with people due to her history as you will gradually uncover.
You will see hints early on while she puts up this cold, aloof, matter of fact focus on objective and distant front. However, you will notice things like her going out of her way to help people be it healing or other ways even if she gripes about it. She will give objective and genuine advice to be helpful and for a person's sake even if the truth is at times a tough pill to swallow. She will get on other characters if they do something wrong and set them straight when she really doesn't always have a need to and it isn't so much her business. During skits you will see her love for food and a bit of both her awkward but kind interactions and at times where she is just very clumsy about it all.
Around realm 3 is when her and Shionne start to grow closer, and in realm 5 it heavily kicks off, and I will not spoil the end but there is more (realm 5 is not the end though, the game continues a while further). Honestly, it is Shionne, Law (ironic, I know you wouldn't expect it from him initially), and somewhat Kisara that helps tie the group together and keep them going. Even Rinwell comes to care about Shionne, as one of her family, as the story progresses.
Honestly, Shionne is my favorite character of the set but the story is a bit too short and condensed so it does suffer a bit. Without spoiling too much, Shionne does have a valid reason for what she is doing, her perspective on things, and why she is who she is.
Anyone who is an especially big fan of Shionne might like Cloche from Ar Tonelico II which is quite similar, albeit that game isn't so short and takes character building to another level, due to its design being heavily focused on character development.
Hell, even at the start you can see that she and Alphen were going to be an item, simply because he was the only one who could touch her and her unspoken need for physical contact.
She's very prickly as hell and has a chip on her shoulders, but that was the result of her situation and she's a lot more dependent on Alphen than the playthrough would suggest. She even mentally "checks out" when she thought that Alphen rejected her in one part of the story, even if it wasn't intentional. She may say she is just "using him" but in reality he was her only hope and when he "oopsied", it was like she had no hope left, hence her brain booked it.
The only likeable people are Kisara, Law and Dohalim.
