WILL THIS GAME HAVE ROMANCE OR OTHER?
And by Other I just mean things like deep character development and/or character interactions and bonding opportunities? I just really hope for some romance. I love me some good romance in an RPG and I hope this will have some. So does anyone know if this'll have any romance? Thank you.

Doubt it'll have romance since it's rare for a tales game to have one. You can expect character developments and bonding since that's what the tales games are known for.

I mean... the male lead can't feel pain and the female lead inflicts immense pain on anyone she touches - if this isn't a setup for an old-fashioned love story, I don't know what is. So yeah, I'd honestly be shocked if this wasn't the first Tales game since DotNW with an integral romance (sub)plot.

Character development and a lot (and I mean A LOT) of party interactions are definitely a given either way.

It depends on what you're looking for - out of the 17 main titles, 10~ have at least romantic undertones, it's pretty much only the more recent ones that mostly stayed away from it.
If we're talking about a big romance subplot though, then I agree, seeing as only 3 (maybe 3 1/2 if you really want to include Graces f) Tales games have one.

Because Tales games are well known for their romance plots??????????????
Not likely.

Consider Instead:

Mass Effect
Dragon Age
Witcher 3

or play a Visual Novel instead. That's where the serious romance is anyways.

I'm not big on the Tales series. Like...at all. So because I don't know a whole lot about them I'm a little bit confused. But I'm assuming that most of you are telling me there will probably be a romance subplot that doesn't get a lot of attention but it'll still be there because the setup for this is totally begging for it.

So for that I thank you guys. This setup really did feel like it'd rely on some romance because of the plot going here and I was hoping it would have some. I've played all those other games, but I love me a good anime style game that has some romance in it. LIke Persona 5 of Persona 4. Great character interactions, romance subplot option sidequest thingy. And a great well written story. So I'm kinda hoping this game will be like that in terms of the romance and character interactions. THanks for the responses everyone.

why are you so mean? He was just asking a normal question :D
But yeah, its unlikely to have a romantic part. I´d like to have something like this aswell even if its just a small flirt or something like that but yeah. Its not normal for Tales of games to have such things

I mean, ultimately we'll all have to wait and see but yes, the premise is begging for a romance subplot.
You should also disregard the people who say that "Tales has never done romance" or the like, because they very clearly have only played a handful of Tales games - probably the more recent ones.

Which Tales am I missing from my to do list, this is most of them....

Tales of Legendia
Tales of the Abyss
Tales of Symphonia
Tales of Vesperia: Definitve Edition
Tales of Graces F
Tales of Zesteria
Tales of Berseria
Tales of Xillia

I'm not saying there isn't some undertones of romance, but its not like a big part of the games, or even small part. No one's going on dates, or seriously pursuing a relationship.

So do you think this one will have some romance? It's kind of a deal breaker for me which is why I"m so curious.

It is a bit hard to say. It will largely depend on the personality and their character development. We can only wait until the game is released before we really know whether it will have romance.

But my guess it that it probably will at least have some romance undertones. Which was present in most tales games.

That's not most, it's not even half of the main titles; but considering that you need to speak Japanese to play 2 of the 9 you're missing, you've definitely played more than most.
And yeah, Tales games don't have an elaborate romance system like Persona for example but OP didn't ask for that.
Out of the 17 main/original Tales games, 3 have a romance subplot that's integral to the main plot and another 7 have at least romantic undertones - not the worst odds.

From what we know so far, I'm pretty sure it will at the very least have romantic undertones, yeah. If you're unsure, just wait for more information in the upcoming months.

Thanks a lot for the info and the help. I'll just have to wait then :)

romance is cheap.
gimme conflicts and backstabbings.
Mira-Valkyrie Aug 1, 2021 @ 11:38am
considering the dialogue we hear in some trailers and the unique "abilities" of the two main protagonist it feels like a romance centric to the plot.
we have
a girl who inflicts agonizing pain on touch
a guy who is incapable of feeling pain
both from conflicting nations
both from opposites sides of the class system (a royal and a slave)
a major theme seems to be about uniting the two peoples

all these things fit into the idea that romance between the two will be symbolic and the fact of them being together will somehow challenge the status quo and spark more conflict.

does this mean romance will definitely be in the game? no
but anybody who says the writing isn't on the wall is being completely disingenuous.

how about Trails series? it's a good one, it has romance, good interaction/dialogue and greatest world building.
