This or Tales of Berseria?
Hey guys. I am looking to possibly get a new tales game, but I'm not sure which one of these two to purchase. The last one I played was Zestiria, which was decent, but it burned me out for awhile on tales games.

I know both of these games, Arise and Beseria, are highly touted, but which one do you think is better overall? I really don't have the time to play both, so I want to choose the best one of the two.

Berseria was one of the best tales games since Symphonia, Vesperia, and Abyss...

That said, I am about 9 hours into Arise, and I think it's going to top Berseria very easily...

Just be aware that there are
3 unique artes, 9 passives, and 3 titles with each character that are locked behind a $30.00 paywall...
None of it is necessary to beat the game, but know that it exists so you are blindsighted later.

Berseria has the bonus that its directly connected to the story of Zestiria so that could be more interesting.
Personally i would go with Berseria, its much cheaper right now if you shop around for Steam keys and apart from the graphics and maybe the battle system i feel Berseria is superior to Arise, especially in the story and character interaction department.

You can still get Arise later when its cheaper.

I haven't finished Arise yet, but so far I would say if you care more about the story go for Berseria and if you care more about the gameplay go for Arise. And if you care about world design, Arise makes Berseria look like a ps3 game in comparison, it's insane how much better it is, both visually and in terms of layout.

Overall, for me personally, Arise is far and away better, but the things I care about are usually a good bit different from other people so take that for what it is.

Honestly, Bersaria was my first tales game and my favorite. Velvet is basically on a warpath, killing anyone that gets in her way. Not a villain, but definitely not a traditional hero either. I thought it was great to see the monster velvet turn into a killing machine then turned into an anti-hero.

Both.

Arise is the only Tales game that's held my interest since Vasperia. Berseria was just super ok to me. The mc was 3edgy5me and it seemed like she was just made to be an edgy waifu. Not to say Arise isn't guilty of it too since Shionne is basically a playbook tsundere.

Writing in Arise is BAD. Characters bland and cliche. Berseria was way more enjoyable in this aspect. Gameplay is better in Arise, hands down.

Speaking of cliches.
Woman in search for vengance cliche-Check
Dude in search of his mentor- Check
Lost child- Check
Enemy that turns ally- Check
Gray morals bad guy who does bad things in order to save the people- check

All tales games have tropes and chiches since always...
Berseria had em, arise has em. I love berseria as my play time might suggest, but do not try to slander Arise saying it's full of tropes when all games in the series are...

Halfway thru Arise and got to say that Berseria had an overall more engaging story, probably because we are instantly introduced to the major villain's early on and the conflict is "personal" so we got a nice carrot to chase.

For Arise so far the presentation is good, but the pacing is a bit too fast.

Thanks for the input. The battle system is always what I really enjoyed about the Tales games, so I might just go with arise since the general consensus seems to be it has the best combat/gameplay.
