Other than that, you'll get used to it, fish have an "animation pattern" to the button prompts, meaning they will do a certain thing visually that will always trigger the same button needing to be pressed.
Other than that take your time and do it at your own pace, it's not an essential part of the game so if you find yourself just not enjoying it ignore it :D
i don't understand the second phase, do i have to mash the "reel" button or it must be mashed only at certain times?
Hold reel when you're using the directional button to follow the arrows. Otherwise just hit the prompts that come up. After a bit, you'll recognize what's about to happen.
IE: When it slightly zooms in and the fish turns, it's about to dash underwater for that directional prompt (L1 for left, R1 for right). If it starts to surface, it's R2. Not sure on the keyboard controls.
Once you've cast the rod out and gotten a bite, you reel by pressing the reel button once then again for when you see the green circle on the bar match the larger green circle there.
There should be no actual button mashing.
Basically Lures, yes. You get several through the Fishing NPC by showing him fish every 5 types. Your starter lures are actually from the Training Grounds with her, which will help you snag your first set of turn ins. Then it's just a matter of progressing to new fishing holes and constantly returning. There are also several scattered around on the city shops, so check each new city as you get there and buy it.
Catching the preferred fish is easy, first you need a lure that will give the easy catch for the fish, but if you notice, in the bait selection menu, on the bottom right corner, you will see a list of fish in that area, with two letters next to it. They are all different, and is key for getting the fish you want.
The buttons you need to press to lure the fish is X, Y and A (or whatever the three assigned to the keyboard is, im assuming you are using the controller for this, for me i used the XB360 controller, dunno if it shows the buttons for the PS style, but u know what i mean)
So you need to lure correct fish by pushing the right buttons thats listed
See Image here, as im gonna show you an example - https://puu.sh/IbfKD/d10bffca55.png
So to get a Dahnan Bass, make sure you pick the lure that will easily catch that fish. Check every store thats inside the inns throughout your travels for a new lure, and others are found through sidequests and chests.
After casting, then when u see the fish above, press A, then A again in the white zone, usually catches the preferred fish within the first attempt, at least it did for me.
For the Hawksbill Trout, equip the correct lure, and press Y, then A to lure that specific fish.
Once you get the hang of it, its pretty much easy to do the rest.
Hope this helps
Yes, you just need the lures. That's 100% how the system is set up. Your first ponds that you have access to once you unlock fishing, you can catch a few fish without any lures in each pond. But as you progress, you *need* the lures. It's built around catching what you can, turning them in, and repeating.
You'll find more lures as you progress, and two in the Training Ground.
