The lack of reliable map markers makes traversal a slog.

Map markers are pretty good actually.

On the map screen, open the areas list, there will be a gold star next to the name of the zone you're supposed to go to. Also shown next to area names are side quest npc's (envelope icon), side quest objectives (green star), and whether that zone has a fast travel point or not (green location marker).

It didn't help that they disabled EVERY fast travel point. I ended up finding it by accident, thanks for the heads up though!

yeah, no, the map markers should be on the actual map guiding you to where you need to go, just not a fan of something as simple as "put a star to show the player they have to go here" was nowhere on their list of priorities, with the added sting of disabling fast travel completely so when you do go to the wrong place you have to walk your happy ass all the way back to the beginning..

The markers are on the actual map, though. There's also a big gold star on the screen at all times sitting directly where you're supposed to be going. Check to see if you have that turned off in the options. It's called Destination Marker and it's near the top of the menu.

There really is no reason anyone should be getting lost in this game.

Dude. you're embarrassing yourself. The mission I mentioned in my first post is NOWHERE in your screen shots. Just stop it, or go back to a save right before you beat the first major boss and see for yourself.

its don't let the door "hit" you on your way out, and you're celebrating for what? There is no map marker after the first boss, and no fast travel, you have to remember exactly where the gate is. I did not.

The map markers are actually a tad wonky now that I think about it, but when it comes to the games of fire when you're storming the castle it does quite literally lead you right past them with the party commenting that "We'll have to come back here after we kick lord flame butt"
Now that's a little subtler than the ways that games normally handle "go here" objectives But I kinda like it honestly, because even if it was pointed out to you like a cow in a field you still kinda feel like you worked it out.

I hear you, for an open world game or CRPG I wouldn't mind a little pixel hunting, but it was unexpected. I usually turn my brain off on JRPG's and just follow the map markers, so the absolute lack of one when I needed it the most took me out it!

Yo.
Those Owls are creepy as hell, the human sounding Hoot Hoot out of nowhere makes my skin crawl!
