Combat Points?
What exactly are combat points? If you play on Moderate or higher you earn more combat points which is what I'm playing on but the higher difficulty you go the more you earn so my question is what are they and is it worth jacking the difficulty up even further? Is it exp towards next level or something else?

Gotcha, that's what I was hoping it was, thank you. :)

Those are Skill Points (sp).

Combat Points are what the grade system was replaced with. I'll lift the explanation wholesale from here:

Tales of Arise definitely loves its points systems, and Combat Points are another thing to take note of. This is calculated after each encounter based on your battle performance, and can also be affected by the game’s difficulty.

By constantly getting into battles and gaining Combat Points, you will fill up the Battle Chain bonus, which goes up to a maximum of five levels. The higher the bonus, the more rewards and multipliers you will get when it comes to experience and skill points earned from combat. This is a great way to boost your levelling efforts, and allow you to accrue more resources to use in the future.

To get the most Combat Points, take note of the following factors:

Positive Factors
  • Defeating Strong or Rare Zeugles/Bosses
  • Finishing the encounter with a Mystic Arte
  • Boost Strikes and Boost Attacks
  • Downing enemies with Boost Attacks
  • Fighting multiple enemies at once
  • High attack combos
  • Speed

Negative Factors
  • Losing the battle
  • Getting KO’d
  • Consuming items

I just came back to correct myself. I got SP and CP mixed up.

No prob man, the game is confusing sometimes. It's overloaded with random terminology some of which even contains the same acronym (Cure Points are CP and Combat Points are CP) lol.

So lets say, I finish a boss fight once on normal and once on hard the rewards will be identical?
Playing higher difficulty doesn't mean higher rewards per se that it fills up the Battle Chain faster? (Hence indirectly getting higher rewards)

The Battle score increases SP & EXP multiplier at the end of the battle and raises the chances of Finding Rare Materials and Monsters

From Samurai-gamers regarding rare materials and enemies:
"High battle scores also improves the chances of rare materials and enemies to appear by triggering the consecutive battle bonuses."

The difficulty adds a multiplier to the Battle score
Story x0.5
Normal x1
Moderate x1.25
Hard x1.5
Chaos x2.0?? (not clarified)

Extra info:
Its not used as a currency like in the old Tales games with the Grade shop, the grade shop cheats are now tied to ingame archievements ( collecting owls, special sidequests etc.)

Do bosses (the kind you can only do once, like a Lord or these World Boss Zeugels) really have RNG drops? I would have imagined they have guaranteed loot as they can only be killed once.

Interesting question, but the only important guaranteed drop is the Unique Item and thats the Astral Flower (raises CP max +10) and if they drop Materials they aren't unique or meant to be farmed from "Gigants"(name World Boss Zeugels) or Lords
I haven't paid attention to the loot drop besides the flower tbh.

The only useful thing i would say is, get the Battle chain to max and then do Bosses to get the most XP / SP Multiplier.

Thanks for clearing that up!

I was curious because while I worked my way towards the second Lord, I forgot to pay attention to my chosen strategy and without noticing the AI used up all of my orange gels. So I was standing before the second Lord with no means of refreshing my CP even once in that fight, and on Hard I simply don't manage to pull that off, hence I cleared it on the Story difficulty just to progress and was wondering how much I have lost out.
Initially I wanted to try again on Normal and eventually work my way up to Hard, it'd take me a lot of time but I am sure I'd end up winning even without any CP recovery, but if all I lost are SP and EXP I can just make up for the loss by grinding a bit more in the next areas.

can't you just farm CP forever so it doesn't matter?
