Have you tried to adjust the trigger range/trigger response curve in Steam Controller Configuration (or R2/L2 buttons)?

If you're using a 3rd party (like DS4Windows) to connect your controller: Can you adjust the deadzone through the program?
i just did and it worked, thank you!
I had the same problem recently with shadow of mordor e a find this and work to arise. "he fix is to, while in the game, shift tab into the onscreen menu and find controller configurations. click on left or right trigger(whichever is giving you problems) and change the "Soft Pull" options to the same button as well. fixed it for me immediately. I know this is an old thread, but I couldn't find a fix anywhere."

I am quite confused in adjusting the trigger/range/trigger response curve.

Biel mentioned doubling the button in the "soft pull" option fixed it (so R2 should be a designated "hard pull" button, so add R2 again to soft pull/do the same with L2).

I feel like that may be an easier fix than messing with deadzone/sensitivity.

Although I had another issue again, because I manage to make the buttons work. So I can use R2 already in the menus, to hold it to run while exploring.. except when in battle. I can't evade/dodge.

At the top of the screen in Steam controller option menu should have Field/Battle/menu/Fishing option to choose. so just get soft pull in all of them the same as hard pull. in your case just choose soft pull and hard pull in battle menu to evade/guard.

At first I thought maybe my controller was broken. did this and it work again.
holy smoke this is so helpful, thanks guys. I bought my first PS4 controller so I can play 3rd person fighting game confortablely, and this help a lot. :steamhappy:
